Here's a fantastic 3 min funny video illustrating why single sex spaces are necessary. Part of the tool kit for those who say they don't understand…..

It's interesting how quickly things change.
There is no way these sketches would be made now.

It's on the iplayer right now - or it was last week anyway.

LittleLebowski · 20/03/2018 08:00

Yes, I think Matt Lucas said he wouldn't do 'the only gay in the village' anymore. If that's the increasing influence and more mainstream view of LGBTQ rights or rather fear of instant backlash to comedians via social media I don't know. It was interesting when Ricky Gervais spoke about risqué topics for humour in Humanity.

That clip is startlingly prophetic isn't it, and accurate too! Men who are very obviously men going on and on (and on) about how they are a woman.

Except now, rather than concede that he is actually a man and use the men's changing, Emily would take to Twitter to name and shame the swimming pool for being so 'transphobic', and everyone would pile on to tell Emily how beautiful and brave he is.

Meh.

LittleLebowski · 20/03/2018 08:32

tell Emily how beautiful and brave he is
Ha! Yes, glittery unicorn sparkle eyes and all! Such an inspiration and role-model!

womanformallyknownaswoman · 20/03/2018 08:45

I thought the phrase at the beginning "rubbish transvestite" was particularly astute as well as Emily's denial of being a man.

I still can't believe that some people think these guys in dresses are not men - it astounds me. It's really very deluded.

What the video didn't capture was the very aggressive men like India, Caitlyn, Jane Fae, who escalate when challenged. Emily went along quietly whereas many don't.

Omg, that’s it in a nutshell, isn’t it? When were these made?

CadyHeron · 20/03/2018 10:16

Little Britain was on telly early 2000s I think, so not that long ago.

wanderings · 20/03/2018 10:22

"But I'm a lady, I don't have testicles. Or, perhaps, little ladies' testicles." (Not the swimming pool sketch, but another Emily one.)

ohfortuna · 20/03/2018 12:04

How prophetic they were!

TimbuktuTimbuktu · 20/03/2018 22:16

The Little Britain guys were/are quite immersed in the LGBT scene so I am sure this was drawn from observation. That's what makes it so cutting.

A bit like Barbara in LoG

I like this one better.

Marital status?

After much nonsense: Okay then, wife with kids. Smile

Yes great one for the collection - "tell mummy daddy is in a police station wearing a dress…."

Ah for those days...
