It’s bloody early to be up, but the taxi is outside waiting to take me to New Broadcasting House. I’m due on at 6:45, do tune in. And pray I don’t fuck it up.

Lottapianos · 20/03/2018 07:15

Well done! You were great.

'I thought your parallel anorexia/gender dysphoria was very well made.'

Ditto

TheGoldenBough · 20/03/2018 07:20

I missed it too.

But well done - you two are amazing!!!

How did it go?

Elletorro · 20/03/2018 07:22

Thank you

SweetGrapes · 20/03/2018 07:22

Missed it. Hope there's a recording somewhere in the ether.

LifelongVaginaOwner · 20/03/2018 07:36

Heard it. I thought you were great. A particularly positive is that you came across as perfectly normal, measured and reasonable. Probably because women who want to talk about this aren't monsters Smile

Well done

Lottapianos · 20/03/2018 07:39

The interviewer was also reasonable, pleasant and thoughtful, and not a wind up merchant like James O'Brien

LifelongVaginaOwner · 20/03/2018 07:41

The presenter who interviewed you has just summed up the concerns (with some input from Nicky Campbell. I'd say they were both very sympathetic. It was so refreshing to hear someone on a national broadcaster outline why the debate needs to take place.

Full disclosure - I wasn't entirely sure how the swimming protest would go and thought it might look petty. But you were right. It's raised the profile and I don't think we could have got 2 better advocates out there.

Trailedanderror · 20/03/2018 08:17

You were brilliant! I’ve sent a text too:
I'd like to add my support to the Dulwich swimmers and point out the risk of new rules over self ID is that they're open to abuse. It will be illegal to challenge a male bodied person changing slowly in the girls changing room or to query whether someone with a beard and penis should be in a Women's Aid shelter.

I bet they don’t use it because of the word penis, and I think that’s the rub of the problem. You have to get really down and dirty to educate people as to what self ID means.

You were great. The presenter was good - very neutral but giving you the opportunity to say your piece (think it was Claire McDonald?) and what Nicky Campbell said later about these people not having women’s experience of the patriarchy was good also. He said it as if quoting feminists - and he can be dodgy on feminism - but he obviously also thinks the trans agenda is crazy.

You’ve done this so well. I am so angry about the erasure and the Orwellian doublespeak that I become incoherent with rage so it’s great that you are both so calm and thoughtful Smile

BoreOfWhabylon · 20/03/2018 08:32

Missed it but it should be available later

I’m thrilled this campaign has been so successful in raising awareness! Texted the programme and Nicky Campbell read it out: “V pleased you are covering self ID. Organisations like Swim England and the Girl Guides are already acting as though self ID has become law. There are safe guarding issues here. Sex segregation is essential for protecting women from male violence and for giving men and women privacy and dignity when they are undressing/vulnerable.” I think the phone in at 9 is now about self ID. Thank you, Amy and Hannah.

LifelongVaginaOwner · 20/03/2018 08:48

I hadn't realised this was going to be the phone-in at 9.

BoreOfWhabylon · 20/03/2018 08:53

They are askng people to ring in and text on 'Should people be able to self-id?' now.

They asked me back for the phone in but I'm on the tube to do my next interview. Do us proud if you call in.

BoreOfWhabylon · 20/03/2018 09:09

Where is your next interview? Good luck Flowers

SwearyG · 20/03/2018 09:23

BBC world service, so bringing this to an audience who might have never heard of it at all. Exciting.

I like to take a bit of time to prep so didn't want to impact the next, agreed, interview by doing a mad phone in. It's better for my mental health to avoid on air arguments with TRAs too.

Good luck sweary

Lottapianos · 20/03/2018 09:25

'It's better for my mental health to avoid on air arguments with TRAs too.'

Very sensible. You're doing plenty as it is

LangCleg · 20/03/2018 09:25

Bloody hell! It's snowballing!

I love you, Sweary, I really do.

ijustwannadance · 20/03/2018 09:29

Well done Sweary! Flowers

Gileswithachainsaw · 20/03/2018 09:30

Well done and thank you so much Flowers

dianebrewster · 20/03/2018 09:34

Well done sweary I missed it sadly but so pleased to have seen the first seeds (ova?) of Man Friday on here and watch you follow it through. You do, indeed, rock!

BykerBabe · 20/03/2018 09:41

I found it very interesting that Stella Creasy addressed this issue on Twitter on Sunday too without blocking or simply calling people transphobes. I think that's got quite a lot to do with you sweary.
