I know there is a great 'Gender Critical to-do list' here
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/2995738-Gender-ID-bill-Gender-Critical-To-Do-List

but I thought we could make another specifically in relation to getting the word out there about the petition.

So:
Write/email your MP (even if you have already) telling them you have signed.
Think of other forums you could post on to bring the petition to the attention of more people. There is a good thread already on Gransnet, but how about:
A forum for lawyers (link it to the latest news that Female Lawyer of the Year at the Law society awards is open to self-id women)
Forum for cyclists (link to this story www.usatoday.com/story/sports/olympics/2018/01/11/these-transgender-cyclists-have-olympian-disagreement-how-define-fairness/995434001/)
Forum for swimmers (link to Swim England Guidelines)
Nurses/teachers/footballers etc etc etc.

All that needs to be said is:
There is a proposal to allow self ID for legally changing sex
Ahead of this, lots of things seem to be moving to self-id.
Transwomen retain their penis and their male strength/can't get pregnant

Post on Facebook in local parent forums (maybe linking to worrying guidance from Swim England, or girl guides), and link the petition.

Make some stickers to put on toilet doors where appropriate (pubs, clubs, hospitals) highlighting that these may no longer be safe spaces and linking to the petition.

Talk to others about it, and encourage everyone who signs to try to get 5 more people to sign as well!

Comment on news websites on relevant stories, and link to the petition (or allude to it if linking isn't allowed).

Any other ideas?

Why do you think people are not signing?

Is there anything you can do to move them towards thinking about the issue without turning them off with the t word. They need to begin to think it may effect them or their family. And think what they feel or believe. People will have different views, that's fine, but having something imposed on them without knowing about it is not good.

Signing the petition is not the only objective. There are other things that are important too.

I think with friends if you push it you may just alienate them and come across as a bit obsessed. I've put stuff on FB and twitter but feel I've now made my point and to keep doing so will just piss people oss. I've blocked people's feed on FB when I thought they were getting single issue and preachy. I have convinced my husband and sister it's a problem.
I see it as a long game.
I think getting across the fact that most transwomen retain their penises and the days of transwomen wanting breast enhancement hormones and female looking genitals are long gone and most m to f transexuals are more what used to be called trnasvestites where they just wear women's clothes and put on a bit of slap will change opinions. Very few people think penises belong on women.

I think a huge number of people are not aware of it. So that is why I am thinking about how to raise awareness. I completely agree there are lots more other (non-petition) things to do as well. And mainly I think that whilst speaking to people one-to-one is great, firstly some people are nervous about that, and secondly, there is a limit to the number of people you can reach that way!

I agree re the long game. I can sense that some people here are getting frustrated. But the tide is turning. And actually 90% of the population are with us already. Because no one really believes in a female penis. Literally no one.

Today - register to comment on the Mail or Times pieces on the ManFriday swim. Link to the petition.

Hear what you are saying about a long game. Trouble is though in Scotland we just dont have time for that. Self ID in law looks like it will happen very soon. Im going to join in man friday and at least get some leaflets in changing rooms etc

I feel defeated today.
On the fence friend has fallen on the other side.

I'm thinking of writing a letter to my local health centre to ask what are their plans if this proposal becomes law and the requirements for cervical screening and other gynae procedures. If the HCP is self identifyihg as a woman then there is no need for the chaperone. Have GMC or RCOG made any announcements on this matter?

Testingnamechange1 · 18/03/2018 12:03

I don’t know, but from comments on other threads, the NHS systems don’t have the ability to separate sex from gender. Hence TIM are called for cervical screening, and there is nowhere to put ‘no cervix’.

Oh dear. Will start thinking about my letter. May be better to RCOG directly?
