Mass resignation from Labour

So I signed up to the mayday4women mass resignation from Labour with my name, position and CLP. I have been quite vocal about my stance on this issue so I don't think there will be a lot of surprise however I will lose friends over it which I am prepared for. However I read on another thread (can't remember which one sorry) where people are reluctant to sign with their names in case their are repercussions. I work in the public sector. I was thinking that there is nothing in the actual statement that could prove I was 'bigoted' or anything. But now after a woman was attacked on the picket line yesterday and another woman interviewed under caution for criticising Mermaids I'm starting to have second thoughts? What could actually happen? Is there anyone else signing up? I don't know what to do! I am a pregnant working mum so I'm also conscious of not causing too much stress to myself.

Could you do a link please OP.

I'm a Labour Party member and I'm leaving.

I thought the mass resignation was supposed to be announced on International Women's Day?

All I heard was on Facebook, they had over 200 women confirmed but no one named specifically.

Labour haven't said anything.

Maybe I got timings wrong and there's still an official announcement to be made?

Wrt your concerns it is right to be worried if you're name is up there and you work in a public role or academia or something. The world is topsy turvey right now and people are being disciplined for being gender critical.

Standing up for women's rights now gets you labelled an "anti trans activist" (they've cunningly moved on from terf).

I stayed anonymous but I'm a sahm! Just paranoid some friends might see my name.... friends who are vehemently pro Labour pro self-ID.

The information is on the mayday4women twitter page if you wanted to sign up you send your name and CLP to [email protected] then they will send you the text to make sure you agree.
I won't put the text on here because they are waiting until it's formally announced by Labour to release the letter (Sat I think) but I can send privately if you like?

Patodp they are waiting for the NEC to formally approve it and announce it I think on Saturday.
I know what you're saying. It Is scary. I just feel like we are being silenced and we should be able to say publicly how we feel about this issue

I've not specified that I want to be anonymous. I am a bit worried about outing my view on this but on the other hand I want to stand up for what I believe in.

I have been a Labour supporter for a long, long time and to leave the Labour Party and to not vote for them again really hurts me. However I cannot support a party that will treat women as they are proposing to do, the consequences of which could affect some of the most vulnerable women in our society (survivors of DV; women asylum seekers who may have been sexually assaulted ; rape victims; children ... the list goes on). And, when I read some of the details about the bullying inquisition that some women LP members were subject to because of what they have written or said, I know that I no longer want anything to do with the Labour Party.

Lefty99 · 11/03/2018 20:28

Same here anna I feel heartbroken over it. The way I see it the party have abandoned me not the other way around. Good on you for taking a stand.

I have voted Labour for 54 years and I don't recognise the party any more.
I've added my name to the list but I don't think I'll be missed

Fluffymcflufftown · 11/03/2018 23:28

I am worried about the same thing. I'm just going to quietly cancel my fees and email my CLP.
I have been waivering but then have just read a load of other nonsense the party are up to with regards to other suspensions and I've made my mind up.
I feel very sad, a friend left when Corbyn got in and I dismissed her concerns over anti-Semitism and sexism and I owe her an apology.
I have no idea who to vote for. We are in a pretty safe seat, but with council elections coming up I just can't support any of them at the moment :(

I think you can asked to be included on the letter as an anonymous signatory.

Clonakiltylil · 11/03/2018 23:55

I’m also part of this group and I have decided to remain anonymous.

AngryAttackKittens · 11/03/2018 23:57

What this tells us is that TRAs will escalate as much as they can get away with, which may be quite a bit, as we get closer to having an actual public conversation about this, because that's exactly what they don't want to happen.

Be careful out there, sisters, some of the people on the other side are genuinely dangerous.

aRespectableBureaudeChange · 12/03/2018 00:34

I don't see any other option - I hope it sparks the high profile left women to speak up. Where are they? Still waiting for Corbyn to self - destruct, it's not happening with out his support at grass roots leaving.

I am in the rather naive position where I was considering voting labour next time, but on just two issues - compound interest on university fees and rent trap the young are in.

I thought Corbyn will break things so much we will have a re-set on lots of issues. Nihilism - lots of young feel that way and my eldest DC got me thinking this way.

Now I understand full implications of this gender bollocks - I will be me making sure my eldest does not vote Labour again. I am confident of wining that argument with him, a decent boy - how could he possibly support men behaving like this - he won't.

A left Labour woman can rise from this to take this issue mainstream. If they won't, you have your answer - they are a bunch of cowards that don't deserve your vote.

I'm writing to local conservative MP this week, and have started talking to people I know and asking them to question why they thought (like me) that they shouldn't have an opinion. This needs to be mainstream.

Anonymous - is certainly good enough - no one should compromise their safety.

anna231a · 12/03/2018 10:01

My brother has also told me that he will no longer be voting labour; he’s been a labour voter all of his life.
