Two Flames @msjenniferjames
wtf... Have just seen this... a senior trade union woman was attacked on a picket line for having attended a @WomansPlaceUK meeting to discuss self-id. Anyone know any more?

No official statement as far as I know. Just seen some male RMT members on twitter who are very pissed off.

woman11017 · 11/03/2018 10:49

Excellent thanks Ovahere.

OlennasWimple · 11/03/2018 13:18

Brilliant news about the event moving to the HoC

BoreOfWhabylon · 11/03/2018 13:57

It will now be held at the House of Commons.

JFC. Poor woman.

And I think what we're seeing is that these idiots think they can use the might of the Trades Unions and they've got so far because people want to be nice. But they don't get the codes. You don't fuck with a picket line.

Exactly. Lot of people, men included, on that twitter expressing support for the woman and condemning the violence.

I wonder if TRAs will be stupid enough to harass the HOC about this. If they start bullying the HOC, is it realistic to hope that that will be an eye-opener for the government?

TRAs are so used to being able to piggy back onto other people's causes. The forget that Unions have been at this for quite a long time, and have some expertise in getting themselves heard, and some rules for how this should be done - you don't just get to invite yourself along and co-opt the narrative.

This was something I was worried about attending one of the first meetings (Cambridge) on my own. Although there was no trouble there in the end (although a nightmare for the organisers I believe). Ugh they are pathetic aren’t they.

Millwall are also pathetic - last people I’d have thought would have submitted at the first sign of bullying from the TRAs - bloody loving that it’s now at the House of Commons though! 😄

AngryAttackKittens · 12/03/2018 09:33

The legitimatization aspect is important. None of the groups that they try to compare us to would be hosted at the HoC, and a GC discussion taking place there indicates that our opinions are not in fact universally considered abhorrent.

The tide is turning. They're going to do as much damage as they can in the meantime, but their ideology can't stand up to serious scrutiny. This is what we've been waiting for.

Bumblebzz · 12/03/2018 09:37

How does one get a ticket to the HOC talk please?

CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger · 12/03/2018 09:40

This is what we've been waiting for.

Please please let that be the case.

(am now dreading a HoC press release about error of judgement and reviewed its meeting room hire policy etc. etc.)

BetsyM00 · 12/03/2018 09:48

@Bumblebzz - it's sold out. But the details for the event are here if you want to contact the organisers on the off-chance there are any cancellations.

Bumblebzz · 12/03/2018 10:01

Thanks @BetsyM00!

There is piece by Judith green of women’s place uk in this week’s Spectator. We’re in a mad place at the moment.

Of further interest were posts by a person purporting to be in HR on another thread about being disciplined/fired from your workplace for comments made on public forums. This poster said she would fire people on MN feminism boards - if she knew who they were - who made anti self-ID comments because they are transphobic.

I'm praying it is.

Heh. Total own goal there.

I do wonder if TRAs will start bombarding the HOC with phonecalls, emails, threats and such to try and get them to cancel. Could they really be that stupid? I reckon, possibly.

This sounds highly unlikely. Self ID is simply a proposal at the moment so how can have having an opinion against something that the government is consulting on mean you would get fired from your job?
That is what a consultation is, asking for opinions.

Plus how can criticising a law be something your employer would sack you for?

And HR are not the decision makers about firing anyway. HR can't wander round the building telling managers, I've seen your team member write stuff on mumsnet I don't like agree with, she's sacked. The Diversity and Inclusion policies are about employees in a company and their protection, not shutting down the rest of the world from debating. Sadly some people have lost any perspective.

AngryAttackKittens · 13/03/2018 07:04

What that HR person is saying is basically that she'd use a person's political views, that are not illegal to have, to find an excuse to fire them.
"She said trans women were men on mumsnet" is not in itself a crime, so what she means is that she'd find an excuse to fire them that wasn't the real reason she was doing it. Which is unethical and unprofessional. So well done there, really showing the HR profession in an excellent light.
