DV Refuge. Was it really that bad?

I recently left refuge, after 8 months. I'm not sure whether the experience was as/more traumatic than the original DV situation!

Ive worked in refuges and yes it can be very hard. Communal living is always hard but in a refuge youve kids etc. And the added trauma everyones dealing with.
And everyone on a different level and from all walks of life.

But, hey you got through it! Hope you're doing well xx

Sorry to hear that Sad

Do you want to talk about it?

Thanks for responding.

I feel that we didn't get the support I was led to believe would be available.
It was supposed to be our safe place, and I did feel safe there. But other stuff that went on was shocking. Life became all about surviving Refuge it's self!

Im not sure what I want. I just want it to be better for families still 'stuck' there.

The particular place we were in had a high staff turnover. I had 5 keyworkers in the first 5 months. Replacements were mostly young and inexperienced, mostly part-time and seemed like they were floundering. The manager was rarely on the premises. Some staff seemed to almost resent the residents. Frequent staff sickness/absence, low staff morale. It felt like such a negative place.
