Proud feminist mum moment

Just talking to my family over lunch and we got onto the MRAs cutting all the women out of the Last Jedi.
DD (11) asked what an MRA was. I said men's rights activist. She said "men's rights activists, men don't need that, they already have all the rights. We need women's rights activists".
DH ill advisedly then said women already have equal rights to men (he was thinking of in this country)
DD said, no they don't dad. In some parts of the world women aren't allowed to drive. Or out alone without men.
And D'S (14) then chipped in with, yes and in France women are banned from wearing headscarves, which isn't fair. Women should be able to choose.
Feel a bit sorry for DH but I am so so proud of my children so I had to share.
Tell me about your proud feminist parent moments.

Wow, your kids seem very worldy aware, high five!

QuentinSummers · 10/03/2018 14:21

I don't think I can take much credit! I had no idea they knew about these things.

Yay!

DD8 chooses clothes from boys and girls sections and says there should just be one department: kids clothes Grin

Sounds great. Just thing. As far as I’m aware women in France can wear headscarves - except in places like public schools where all religious symbols are banned. It’s the niqab that’s banned.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 10/03/2018 14:26

What happened to The Last Jedi?Shock

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 10/03/2018 14:27

It's ok - just googled it!! What a pack of pricks!!!

QuentinSummers · 10/03/2018 14:29

I love it when we're watching an advert or whatever and my kids shout "Sexist!" :o

Also I've always tried to avoid sexist assumptions when talking about people so I'll try to say "he or she" or "she or he" at random when we're talking about nurses, astronauts, pilots whatever. I love the fact that the DC have picked it up and if someone says "he" about an unknown doctor, police officer etc or even an animal, my kids will go "or she!" I haven't prompted them to, but it's obvious to them now.
