Best guess at timescales & process re GRA? We still have time!

Hi... my understanding is that:

  • the Conservatives have gone very quiet (a good sign!)
  • no date is set for either discussion or voting?

What is likely to happen next?
Really like to know the likely process and timescales (worst and best case scenario)

Together I am convinced that by:

  • writing to our Mps
  • peaktransing others - some of whom will write to their MPs
  • encouraging real debate in the media (more challenging!)
  • potentially creating some publicity stunts for media to increase understanding and awareness

.... we CAN do it and there is STILL time....

I would like to know this too. The tories have gone very quiet - they can't be unaware of what's going on with labour.

Going to unashamedly bump this up - I know there are some great Mumsnetters out there who know more about this than me!

Love to hear from you

Someone suggested on another thread an unseat campaign, against pro self-ID Bromentum MPs with a slim majority.

I saw rumblings (I forget where) that suggested that the consultation on the GR Bill would be coming out in "the spring". Which, for a government document, could mean any time between now and August...

That will be the really critical juncture, and it will be important to be ready to mobilise troops when it is published and we see what the actual proposals look like.

It's important to remember a) there is very little Parliamentary time available to take through a contentious bill, whilst Brexit is also rumbling on; but b) many organisations (GG, M&S, Top Shop, Swim England, the Labour Party...) are already behaving as if the act had been passed and self-ID had replaced the GRC process. We need to record any and all instances where problems arise as a result of this approach, to cite as evidence in responding to the consultation.

I don't know abut the planned timetable in Scotland: the consultation ended at the start of this month, and I suspect that there will be quite a lot of information for the policy officials to wade through in order to decide on the next steps.

Definitely visit your MP and raise your concerns. Tell everyone else you know and point them to the discussion here. Follow and share a woman's place uk (someone here should have a link) and fair play for women.

Make sure any organisations you are connected with know about safeguarding concerns so they can sort them - e.g. See guides thread;

Keep an eye on mumsnet for specific things to do and updates.

If you have more time there is a longer thread if you look back about other actions you can take, there are plenty!

Labour have utterly failed women and are breaking sexual discrimination law.
