bitchfest I hate That phrase, the industrial level of sexism,it is awful.reeks of know your place woman
Don’t get all het up about politics, society, employment, or anything.keep it light
Be nice,be agreeable,be cordial. Otherwise it’s a bitchfest.and no one wants to be a bitch...

It’s a gender loaded word to minimise women dialogue. No one uses it to men

I see it on mn,any heated exchange someone will pop up,immediate put down of women expressing opinion. Now I don’t know if those who say it attribute the significance to it that I do. Or if they think just a word.

An insult is insulting. Hold the front page.

Boxesandbuttons · 04/03/2018 15:17

Never seen this on mumsnet myself.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 04/03/2018 15:21

Midthread someone has commented bitchfest, apparently it’s mn ethos

It has an implication of no-holds-barred, almost a self-indulgence of expression - the complete opposite of how women are expected to express themselves,

A man has something to say, says it loudly, openly and firmly. He is authoritative and is listened to.

A woman says something in that way: she is loud shrieking, open immodest and firm demanding.

'Bitchfest' can be insulting, yes. But it can also be women throwing off the restraints of society's expectations of how we should speak, and allowing ourselves to be loud, open and firm.

Depends how it is used. Like calling MN a nest of vipers.

Bitchfest to me,reeks of know your place, don’t get animated, not nice to disagree
And other women using it as a put down makes me think they fail to understand its value laden put down
Irascible
Heated
Fierce
Are all (IMO) words that describe a discussion that aren’t demeaning or gendered

I hate the word 'bitch'. Far more than 'cunt'. It's silencing and it's used a lot. By women as well. I've noticed it on the lot of threads.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 04/03/2018 16:19

Yes,bitch it’s not what nice women want to be.and we are socially conditioned to be nice
Cunt to me is a profanity,a swearie word. But not wholly directed at minimising women

I think most people here are more focused on the fact that Labour is currently trying to pass a mass of CLP motions that would spell the end of biological women as a sex class with according Rights and protections tbh

Boxesandbuttons · 04/03/2018 16:22

Support the end of, sorry

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 04/03/2018 16:51

It’s not an either or,I know women can hold more than one pressing concern at once
Folk can simultaneously have thoughts and Labour Party and casual use of pejorative terms

Advocates for the subjugation of women may not always come right out and dismiss women's objections with that terminology but that is most often what MRAs and transgender advocates are saying in the subtext, when they are not calling women bigots for saying no to men.
