I’m not sure what might’ve been missed in the status that justified that response.

Mner · 27/02/2018 22:16

If they've just appointed someone known to be racist (and got rid of by L'Oréal for their comments according to that BBC article), there doesn't look like there's much chance they'll take action against any one else spewing racism on social media (LM).

Surgery-wise, all roads seem now to lead to Kardashian.

hipsterfun · 27/02/2018 22:25

That sounds a bit unkind, but it’s interesting how the female look that is sought (by women as well as men) is so stereotyped, whereas us women are a visually diverse bunch.

hipsterfun · 27/02/2018 22:58

On good authority, Dawn Butler is indeed as thick as two short planks.

I’m also quite thick, possibly overqualified in fact, so may I be shadow minister for something, please?

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 28/02/2018 00:14

To be fair hip I have had more than my fair share of the supposed 'clever' ones to train. Character building shit that.

DonkeySkin · 28/02/2018 00:59

We need to talk about the fact that the average life expectancy of a transgender woman of colour is just 35

This is a fake statistic. It has no basis in evidence. I see it repeated everywhere by TRAs and their allies, always without a source. That's because there is none.

ChattyLion · 28/02/2018 07:15

Hold on.... I seem to have missed the bit where this LGBT advisor to the Labour Party has retracted and apologised for writing this bit of fake news?
The bit where this person tweets apologetically that they note that in the UK black men had the vote, that WoC were among the suffragette leadership, and specifically that the votes for women in the UK were never granted or prevented on the basis of women’s skin colour?!

AngryAttackKittens · 28/02/2018 07:16

I'll be happy when the Kardashian look finally goes out of fashion and teenage girls stop trying to make themselves look like 35 year old drag queens.

That article is unusually stupid even by fashion magazine standards, and the headline is so obviously an attempt to troll women that I hope it bites them in the ass in the form of lost sales and cancelled subscriptions.

Thisusernamethingistricky · 28/02/2018 07:31

I imagine it comes from a similar statistic as the 'trans women are murdered in their droves' trope. If you actually dig a little, the overwhelming majority of trans people who are murdered are in places like Brazil and other South American countries, where the murder rate of women and men in general is much much higher anyway. That doesn't lessen the value of the lives of the trans people murdered there, but trans people are not murdered at any sort of higher rate than anyone else.

It's total bullshit, same as the suicide 'statistics' and I'm sick of things being twisted to suit the TRA agenda.

ChattyLion · 28/02/2018 08:06

Are there any FtM transmen advising Labour on trans issues or is it only appointing MtF trans- identifying males?

Seeing as the rate of FtM identifying girls and young women is reportedly rocketing up from previous levels in NHS gender clinics, this might seem a key issue to seek to understand if Labour are trying to take trans people’s needs seriously?

AngryAttackKittens · 28/02/2018 08:10

Labour are not trying to take trans people's needs seriously unless they have a penis, a fetish, and a love of telling women to shut up. Also a lot of FTMs are lesbians and we know how sexist blokes of both regular and dress wearing variety feel about that.

LangCleg · 28/02/2018 08:16

  1. As others have said, it isn't.

  2. TIMs are less likely to be murdered than other males in both the US and the UK. The risk is associated with sex work, not TIM status.

  3. The vast cocktail of drugs used in a TIM regimen have huge side effects and may well - although we don't yet have the data - reduce lifespan.

AngryAttackKittens · 28/02/2018 08:21

But prostitution is empowering and not dangerous at all! Not sure how they square those things too. Maybe that's part of the reason for the constant tetchiness, that much cognitive dissonance would put anyone in a foul mood.

ChattyLion · 28/02/2018 08:34

Kittens so revealing isn’t it, of where the priorities are. Maybe all those teenage girls in a lot of confusion and distress or adult transmen who have been through the process don’t have enough Twitter followers to be worth the Labour party hierarchy calling them in for some tokenistic photo-opping.

nauticant · 28/02/2018 10:24

2) TIMs are less likely to be murdered than other males in both the US and the UK. The risk is associated with sex work, not TIM status.

TIMs in the Western world come disproportionately from a relatively privileged segment of society (often middle class white men) and this explains why they're not exposed to the violence that is claimed.

It also explains why TIMs apparently seem to "become" less prone to violence when they transition. It doesn't actually provide safety, it's that the selection is from a pretty safe segment. It's about who they were prior to transition.

The gulf between these privileged TIMs and ones working as sex workers in South America is so vast that cross-applying the statistics is the most shocking appropriation. (On second thoughts, it's probably rather modest appropriation in trans ideology.)

The Times have printed them too

holycheeseplant · 03/03/2018 15:49

It's a sign of the times when once again we are in agreement with the times (though I'm now increasingly pro times) and the DF...

Anyone else feel like the world was turned upside down and inside out a couple of years ago?
