Washington times reports that "growing body of research rejects the transgender movement"

It's based on a book written by a public policy researcher. He looks to be right wing but mainstream in America.

I feel like the tide is turning with respect to allowing open debate. Male researchers writing on this is a big development.

I'm not American but I believe Washington post is a reputable paper.

I hope his book When Harry Became Sally makes into wide circulation.

I hope someone at the Guardian reads it.

I read it and was disappointed to see Ryan Anderson is also strongly against same sex marriage. It is good to see more mainstream articles, but personally I wouldn’t use this in a Twitter discussion, for example, as I am wholly in favour of same sex marriage as I believe it harms nobody.

doctorcuntybollocks · 24/02/2018 14:37

It's in the Washington Times, not the Washington Post.

Patodp · 24/02/2018 14:38

Oh so he's a religious conservative?
They're our only allies! Unfortunately.

Triliteration · 24/02/2018 14:48

There doesn’t have to be an allegiance. We have to plough our own path and make it clear we have our own message and agenda.

Difficult though. I posted something here recently which I thought was highly respectable. Turned out it was right wing in a similar way, made to look highly respectable.

Review of the book which also discusses the author's opposition to same-sex marriage:

The Washington Times is a newspaper owned by the Unification Church, which is a religious group popularly known as "the Moonies".

Shock Ffs. Sorry

Don't apologise Quentin.
The book and the issues are legitimate. Given the extreme threats and silencing associated with transactivism we are in an uncomfortable position of seeing sources sharing information that previously the ethical press would have shared. Sadly they're too busy outing the latest teacher for refusing to chant the mantra: 'the penis is a female organ' Confused

He is the chap who chaired the 'Hands Across the Aisle' meeting which had both right and left wing women on the panel discussing the Gender Identity issue. Because he is associated with the Heritage Foundation, it is likely that this will get quite a bit of publicity.

Ouchbirthhurted · 24/02/2018 17:36

My view: people should ALL be able to live their lives how they want to as long as they aren't hurting others. I was and am very much pro same sex marriage
Religious Conservative view: people should live their lives according to my beliefs in certain areas, eg against same sex marriage.

Both the above world views can agree on biological reality and object to demands that would infringe on others.

HairyBallTheorem · 24/02/2018 17:52

Hi Quentin - always easy to get these things muddled if not from the US, but as pointed out Washington Times is an adjunct of the Moonies (the mistake I often have to catch myself on is reading New York Post - a tabloid not much up from the National Enquirer - as the New York Times).

The give away though is that no way in a million years would the Wash Po cover this - I had a subscription for a year and it out-Guardians the Guardian by a long way. There would never be anything even vaguely gender critical in the Wash Po.

QuentinSummers · 24/02/2018 19:25

That's what surprised me hairy
Duh. Bloody Internet. It's so hard to keep on top of the sources. At least I know now though

Posting this again for those that haven't seen it.

Unfortunately I can't remember the source to credit it, but I think it's a great way of explaining the conservative/trans/feminist positions.
