Looked after children and impact of self Id

Last year there was 72,670 children in the care system in the uk. Most of these are in children's homes or foster placements. Despite the police checks required children's homes have a long history of attracting paedophiles and abusers. We know these children are some of the most abused and vulnerable and overlooked.

I haven't yet seen any guidance on the self id issue regarding children in care. Has anyone else? Because if social services go along with it, or start issuing guidance for self Id, it could leave a little girl who has experienced sexual abuse forced to share a bedroom with a boy who says he's a girl.

What about foster parents and children's home staff? What checks can be made to ensure that trans people are what is perceived as "genuine" trans and not men with a fetish? Children can be wonderfully validating and I think it is only a matter of time before we start to see fostering applications from agps along with the usual celebrations about it. How marvellous and progressive. Do any foster people know?

Best practice is that LAC should have their own room, rather than be expected to share.

I would hope that even the most desperate of councils would politely decline an application to become a foster carer from the most outrageous AGPs, but as you say, there isn't a great track record in this regard in the care sector Sad

I would be worried that looked after children may be more likely to meet an affirmative approach if they are gender non conforming.
