My identity

transtranswoman · 06/02/2018 14:10

I self identify as a self identified transgender woman. I feel in my heart that is what I am.

I have had no surgery nor taken any artificial hormones.

Unfortunately this means that I am not in possession of a female penis Sad

I believe that self identified trans women that were born biologically male have all the privilege as trans women. Trans women like me can only dream of having a female penis, being good at sports and having our rights recognised.

Therefore I would like to suggest that safe spaces are provided for me, spaces where I don't have to see female peni.

I would also like to be addressed with the correct pronouns (She/Her).

Anyone that disagrees with me is transphobic. This is my right to identify as I choose and demand fair and equal treatment.

I am a self identified transgender woman.

not transwomen, transtranswomen. (Or transtranstranswomen?)

Winefred · 06/02/2018 17:06

A transwoman is a man who identifies as a woman

A transtranswoman is a woman who identifies as a man identifying as a woman

A transtranstrans...

What on earth is a female penis???? So you want all the perks of being a woman but still refuse to let go of the idea of having a penis of some sort? Why? Does the idea of having a vagina offend you?

Can't tell whether this post is a joke or not??

Missymoo100 · 06/02/2018 17:09

Winefred-
Ah I see! Is this an actual serious thing or a joke?

Winefred · 06/02/2018 17:13

Always best to take everything Very Seriously.

Riverside2 · 06/02/2018 17:15

Goldmonday "What on earth is a female penis???? So you want all the perks of being a woman but still refuse to let go of the idea of having a penis of some sort?"

Yes. This is actually quite a good summary, even if accidentally so.

I apologise if I'm repeating really old things but I remember how confusing it was when I was new.

so my summary

  • English and Scottish governments both looking at allowing people to "self identify" which might mean that men who have had no medical treatment at all will be able to access women's changing rooms, women's sports etc

This is already happening in some cases. For instance, Hampstead Women's Pond now say you only have to declare yourself a woman to use the pond. NB there are mixed and men's ponds available as well.

cases to research if you are new

Tara Hudson
Danielle Muscato
Lily Madigan

if you believe that men and women are about "identity" and not biology, then voila - a woman has a penis.

Meanwhile, I continue to sulk that no one laughed at the pasta. Grin

Missymoo100 · 06/02/2018 17:15

Seriously seriously on the subject of transtrans winefred?

Riverside2 · 06/02/2018 17:16

Still time to fill in the Scottish consultation, you are allowed to do even if you are not Scottish.

Yes, I do see the irony there Grin

Riverside - is my struggle to be my authentic self just an excuse for a staple food stuff joke? Sad

Missymoo100 · 06/02/2018 17:22

What I don't get is that there are two trains of thought-

  1. Gender is innate, linked to and determined by biological sex
2.gender is conditioned, linked to environment As I understand Trans people either think gender is pre determined- and their gender doesn't match their physical body Or that gender is fluid and therefore can opt in and out of being male or female depending on what one feels at any given time. Well the two accounts contradict one another. I'd like a trans person to explain it to me.

Riverside2 · 06/02/2018 17:28

Missy, there's always going to be several trains of thought about things

for me the vital issue is that the legal definitions stick with biology and that areas which are divided by biology - hospital wards etc - continue that way.

and requests for female nurses etc etc

gendertrender.wordpress.com/tag/afab-transwomen/

I found this enlightening article that made things much clearer for me....
Hmm

I got to here...
Female and male are not biological categories denoting reproductive specificity because there are no such stable categories. And if there were, it would be wrong to name them, because identifying any category of humans with a term based on a physical characteristic they all share (tall, diabetic, brunette) erases their humanity....:

I should think if I were diabetic and about to go into a coma, then I might quite like someone to identify me as diabetic....

I seriously despair for humanity.

TheNerevarine · 06/02/2018 17:41

The idea that a 'female penis' is a thing is a deadly serious one, by the way. See the 'cotton ceiling', and the pressure put on lesbians to have sex with transwomen who haven't had an op (which is most of them), because 'transwomen are women' and therefore their penises are female penises and it's transphobic for a lesbian to not want to have sex with a female penis because it's female, obvs. Funnily enough it doesn't seem to work the same way with gay men and transmen. Odd that, innit?

Missymoo100 · 06/02/2018 17:42

Riverside- yes I had seen that article, it's shocking.

Winefred · 06/02/2018 17:45

This is one of those subjects where you need to get people to understand little by little

  • because otherwise they'd think you were just making it all up.
Missymoo100 · 06/02/2018 17:52

I sometimes think I should just stop coming on here and cut myself off from any news source because it makes me feel like crying Sad

NothingTraLaLa · 06/02/2018 17:54

I am facing having to break the news to DH that he is married to a transtranswoman. I wonder how he will take it (I feel it is important to centre the male perspective, obviously).

Missymoo100 · 06/02/2018 17:55

That article, to think some people actually think that way...
To strip away any source of identity, even down to male, female... is the most dehumanising thing I can think of.

Riverside2 · 06/02/2018 18:01

Missy, it's really difficult, but unless we can live like hermits, we do need to keep up to date, sadly.

Missymoo100 · 06/02/2018 18:10

I really does make me feel sad, it's like humanity is pressing its own self destruct button. I think it would be nice to go somewhere remote and come back in a few years to see how it's working out. I'm really expecting it not to go well, I'm waiting to see what horrible conclusion this all reaches.

Riverside2 · 06/02/2018 18:14

Missy " I think it would be nice to go somewhere remote and come back in a few years to see how it's working out"

I would just like to go somewhere remote, sunny and not come back Grin

perhaps if there's internet access I could just look it up!!

Riverside2 · 06/02/2018 18:14
  • I mean, look up how it's working out.

but it's pretty clear, it's all about silencing women.

Missymoo100 · 06/02/2018 18:23

I actually think there's even more to it than that....
I think this along with other identity politics is there to create chaos and undermine existing social structures.
I can see some similarities between what's going on and the rise of Mao in communist china... where red guards went around beating up people who were dissenters. There was an effort to destroy anything that was associated with old culture and traditions
I think it's communism, and a dictatorship that will come out of this.

OlennasWimple · 06/02/2018 18:32

I think it would be nice to go somewhere remote and come back in a few years to see how it's working out

That is my current life plan! I'm not in the UK, living somewhere where none of this is an issue and people would look at you as if you were totally bonkers if you said the words "female penis". It's not all a bed of roses here though (no legalised gay marriage, high rates of DV, divorce difficult to obtain, abortion only in limited circumstances, for example)
