Can I join you? The BBC made me peak!

Hi all.
I was on mumsnet years ago before the who data breach geoff thing. I left and vowed never to return. I never looked at the feminism pages but in the last 12 months I began to lurk. I can't remember what it was that brought me here.
Anyway - I am like a lot of people a very accepting person. I didn't ever question the trans narrative because I likened it to the homophobia of the past. But then I read, I thought and then I read some more and I realised that a debate very much needs to be had about the trans issues. I have been provided with so much information and considered reasoning from you lot - especially Datun - what a legend!
I have read all the links, watched the videos, followed twitter feeds and I have been close to peak trans for a while. I resisted rejoining mumsnet because I didn't see the point and was worried about security because of last time. I 100% can not speak publicly about this because of my job. But I can take it no more and I need to vent.

The BBC video someone else mentioned today is what has finally tipped me over the edge. I have just sent off my complaint to the BBC and I have re-registered to tell someone, anyone that OH YES. I HAVE PEAKED!.

I came to this way of thinking a while back (my daughter in particular is a non "girly" girl and it frightens me that in another family/area she'd be encouraged to trans.) I just wasn't sure of the terminology!
The olympics and sports issues are just nuts. And I'm worried about data and reporting for crime and medical issues as there won't be the distinction :(

I'm in a fb group I otherwise love but has very pro trans parents and I do find it hard watching parents transing their kids.

I love cake - happy to bring and share.... in fact I haven't made cake for a while...

CappuccinoCake · 04/02/2018 11:37

I am so going to make cake.

Ekphrasis · 04/02/2018 11:40

May have some?

Cappuccino, look up peach yogurt on YouTube. She's awesome.

CapnHaddock · 04/02/2018 11:42

Ah yes, I wondered if it might be that one. What a blatant propaganda feat that was.

drinkswineoutofamug · 04/02/2018 12:21

Can I join too please.

NaturalWoman · 04/02/2018 12:32

I wonder if the BBC are doing it deliberately?

What with the video; the Andrew Marr/Jeremy Corbyn interview last week; Sally Hitchiner's outrage that we should even be questioning whether men should be allowed into women's refuges...

CallMeAstroTerf · 04/02/2018 12:32

Lily caused my peaking, along with many others I suspect

(I doubt she'll ever cause any 'peaks' for men!! Oooh bitchy Shock)

Bejazzled · 04/02/2018 12:38

Nothing from the BBC surprises me now. How they can claim to be 'equal' in any way is ridiculous.

BBC and Labour - corrupt to the core

ChattyLion · 04/02/2018 12:40

What I find amazing is every time I think my peak has been reached, something more comes to light and it happens all over again..Shock

ChattyLion · 04/02/2018 12:46

Re BBC I can’t think of a particularly gender critical journalist there. I think most well meaning people who have never really thought about this stuff, but are asked to write about it, will try to be ‘fair to both sides’ (ie they will assume that there are two equal sides in conflict). Uncritical Journalists like that will want to be ‘impartial’ until they know more and instinctively they will want not to be prejudiced. Which is what they are constantly being told they are if they question any trans position because they have aligned themselves with LGB groups despite often having interests in tension with LGB people’s interests.

areyoufuckingcrazy · 04/02/2018 12:46

Nice though that thought is Natural, I think it's more likely they've downed the Kool-Aid.

hipsterfun · 04/02/2018 12:48

It might be grasping at straws, but I too wonder if the Beeb are feigning credulousness in order to peak trans people by stealth.

It seems utterly incredible that so many intelligent people could be failing to apply any critical thinking whatsoever.

LonginesPrime · 04/02/2018 12:55

Yes, Fairenuff, I agree.

No-one talked about what they felt defines them as a woman (although one trans man seemed to touch on the question at the end). It was just about who defines them - feel quite miffed by such a disingenuous and clickbaity title on the BBC.

OvaHere · 04/02/2018 12:57

I find myself increasingly thinking of this sketch in the wake of so much ridiculous reporting and trampling over women's rights and lives.

terryleather · 04/02/2018 13:08

Thinking about it I probably peak every day, it just never seems to stop.

I think my original one was when the Hollywood actress Martha Plimpton was organising an event for reproductive rights called Night Of A Thousand Vaginas and was absolutely leathered by TAs/SJW for being "cissexist and bioreductionist".

I remember that I just couldn't get my head around this at all - women were not to talk about actual things that actually affected them because it was offensive, especially in a country where women's reproductive rights were and still are under seige.

It just blew my mind that something so important that affected so many women was to be rubbished and cast aside because of feelz.

I think that happened in 2014 and it makes me want to weep that it's got so much worse since then.

The only light I see is that more women seem to be peaking at a faster rate, so welcome all and pay it foward - peak trans a friend today!

SchrodingersFrilledLizard · 04/02/2018 13:10

Welcome back, op.

I agree. Datun is fabulous.

And it is thanks to MN that I have a much better understanding of feminism and trans issues. Thank you, everyone at MN, for your helpful contributions!

HawkeyeInConfusion · 04/02/2018 13:12

I've just written a complaint to the BBC about that article. I'm not expecting it to make any difference.

BBC do pay a lot of attention to public feedback, it’s in their governance, always worth getting in touch with them.

Ohyesihavepeaked · 04/02/2018 13:27

Thanks for the welcome everyone.
I just wanted to point out something else that has annoyed me about that film. They interviewed a trans woman and a trans man and only one woman. Sorry it was two trans women. Anyway, why did they interview a trans man? By the trans ideology that so many follow blindly, a trans man is a man. So why were they included in a video about who or what defines you as a woman. He's a man right? No? Yes? How can such muddled thinking be accepted by so many? It makes NO sense.

Ekphrasis · 04/02/2018 13:32

Oh it's very one sided and incomplete.

There's been a few threads on this this morning; I posted this on the first I saw (nativitydiaper's)

It didn't mention prisons I noticed. So someone with a penis could be in a prison. Someone who has committed sex offences, as per the recent case.

It was a black and white argument. At least whoever the TW was said they didn't feel it was appropriate to call women bigots for wanting to talk about this, but there was really only Linda speaking for the women and no younger women talking about it. This gives the unconscious feeling it's out of date to think GRA is wrong.

It didn't include any TiMs who felt it was wrong.

HawkeyeInConfusion · 04/02/2018 13:38

The thing that made me first sit up and take notice was a thread on here about the trans agenda and its implications for girls on the autistic spectrum.

As a child I wanted to be a boy. As a teenager I felt more affiliation with boys - we had more in common, more similar interests, more we could talk about. I struggled with small talk with girls because I wasn't into fashion, make-up, celebrity crushes. Turns out I was on the spectrum but I didn't know at the time (or for many years afterwards) and that is quite typical for girls with ASD. In today's climate I'd probably be pushed to labelling myself trans. I may have opted for drug therapy. And I wouldn't have had the chance to grow up to be the person I am - a woman, with some non-gender-typical (if that's the word) interests. And I probably wouldn't have my DC who I adore because the medication could have made sterile. It's chilling.

terryleather · 04/02/2018 13:39

Where the power & money lies shows you how much the establishment really believe women can become men i.e. not at all.

The fact that a TIF with a GRC can still not inherit a title etc because the laws on primogeniture were exempt or become a priest, tells you all you need to know about that...

I didnt even think about that. I guess I dont see trans men as men.
