Gutted that i can't make this. It's so important

qumquat · 04/02/2018 18:25

Ticket bought! It's a crazy week for me at work that week but determined to DO something. I know Lewisham well so happy to provide advice on good places to meet if needed.

Cwenthryth · 05/02/2018 07:29

Venice Allan has confirmed on Twitter that there will be extra security at the venue - and the police are aware of potential violent protest so there may well be a police presence as well.

Also to re-iterate the event isn’t women-only, all are welcome to attend as long as they are not disruptive.

Twitter if there would be security staff at the venue, and she confirmed that there will be extra security at this talk

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 05/02/2018 07:31

Got my ticket.

AstraiaLiberty · 05/02/2018 08:19

I'll be going. I didn't go to the last meeting in London because I was worried about what might happen and about making my views known in-person rather than just online.

Now I'm so angry that women are being silenced that I have no hesitation.

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 05/02/2018 08:29

I’m considering, but very nervous.
It’s a bit of a way to travel for me but I’m really frustrated with the situation and keep re-peaking.Sad
I need to do something.

Dh has offered to come with me as a supporter and fellow feminist. Has anyone been to an event organised by this group before who could comment on whether it would be acceptable?

BetsyM00 · 05/02/2018 12:22

Totally fine Beer. It's an open public meeting - everyone (male or female) is welcome so long as they are not disruptive.

MacaroonMama · 09/02/2018 13:29

Got my ticket! Bumping the thread as no Early Bird tickets left (despite the Early Bird ticket deadline being next Tues!) and I had to pay £10 for mine so wanted to let people know in case those go soon too! Happy to meet up first or after. I also know Lewisham v well (not that it is overwhelmed with great places to go!)

MacaroonMama · 09/02/2018 13:29

Here it is - Bump!

MacaroonMama · 09/02/2018 13:29

Looking forward to it. Will shut up now Smile

TheGoodEnoughWife · 09/02/2018 17:17

Got my ticket. Don't know Lewisham at all! Happy to meet up before, in fact would prefer too ;-)

AstraiaLiberty · 09/02/2018 17:27

I'd definitely like to meet up with others before, too, if it's possible - I don't know Lewisham very well and don't know if I could walk past transactivist protestors on my own, should there be any.

DjunaBarnes · 09/02/2018 17:29

I've also got a ticket, it's a while since I've been in Lewisham, up for pint.

IndominusRex · 09/02/2018 18:31

Ah that's my old manor. Can't make that one sadly but hoping to be at the woman's place one in a couple of weeks.

TheGoodEnoughWife · 09/02/2018 18:36

Where do I find the women's place London one details please? I looked on Twitter but couldn't find actual specifics.

CunningOperative · 09/02/2018 18:37

I'm going too. If anyone ( @hipsterfun ) is worried about their personal data pm me, I'm happy to buy your ticket, they already have my details Grin
Also up for meeting before Smile

MyTerfNeedsRolling · 09/02/2018 18:44

WPUK London event:
www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/a-womans-place-is-making-a-stand-tickets-42865237078/amp

You need to buy a ticket and they'll contact you the day before or on the day to confirm exact location

rowdywoman1 · 09/02/2018 18:50

I'm booked and going.
I know that it's scary but it is outrageous that we should be frightened. This is a democratic society and we are allowed to discuss the rights of women. The ONLY people who should have anything to fear are those threatening, doxxing, no platforming, shouting transphobia in order to silence us.
Women have started to expose the activist's threats, delusions and their violence. Their arguments are being exposed for what they are - bigotry and misogyny.

TheGoodEnoughWife · 09/02/2018 19:29

Thank you

ladyballs · 09/02/2018 19:44

I studied at Goldsmiths recently and it's pretty much TRA central.

Thanks for the heads up about the meeting.

hipsterfun · 10/02/2018 11:55

Thanks, Cunning, I’m still wavering but give me a few days and I may’ve womaned up.

MacaroonMama · 10/02/2018 15:44

So excited that we will have solidarity! How do we set up meeting beforehand? I am (very occasionally!) on fb, would a secret group be suitable? Happy to try and set one up over the weekend.

(I am a long time member of Mumsnet, though have only posted in the past couple of years - on feminism, diets, books, breastfeeding and baby names. If you wanted to PM me I could give you my real name to look at my FB or something? Don't know how this works...)

RadicalFern · 10/02/2018 16:23

I’m umming and ahing about this. I was trying to analyse my reasons as to why, and realised it’s because it’ll end late and I’ll have to find my way to some sort of public transport in the dark, with the TRAs roaming about.

How terrible it is that in this day and age in the UK I’m maybe too scared to go to some free speech because of what might happen.
