It's expensive, is it worth it?

Also, are other recommendations for gender critical books?

This one is utterly amazing. It’s 20 pounds, but worth every penny. Amazon have it.

Dr Wendy Wheeler has written some great books too. Recommend following her on Twitter.

I've looked at that one. One of the reviews says it's a bit woo in places. Did you find that?

A bit in places, but my background is critical theory, so I find most Theory a bit woo. Including Gebdef Theory. It’s still a fascinating read. There’s not a lot out there, so when I can I get it. I’d be interested to hear about Gender Hurts too.

I had to go on Amazon to buy descaling solution for my coffee machine, I accidentally clicked on the buy kindle edition for Female Erasure. I hate it when that happens, accidental book buying.

Hahahahaha. I use accidental excuse all the time. Oh that’s lovely, when did you get that.

Oh accidentally. 😂

Gender Hurts gives a thorough overview. The major absence is that it makes no serious attempt to understand why transgender is so attractive to young people for positive reasons; little mention of the crucial role on online media, especially tumblr. In that sense it feels a little dated.

Gender Hurts is good for background on how the concept of gender evolved as separate from sex (sexologists separated them originally, then feminists developed the idea of gender as a social construct used to maintain the patriarchy). It gives a useful explanation of the types of male transgender person, HSTS and AGP. It goes into depth about the gruesomeness of sex reassignment surgery and explores how the trans movement took off. It's quite poignant when it mentions how the lesbian festival 'Michfest' was holding out against attacks by TRAs - Michfest has since shut down. I did feel that the book loses credibility by being a bit too anti-male.
