Hi

My first post, I've been lurking for months and devouring every thread in feminism as I peak trans afresh daily!

Now I want to do something! But as a newbee can anyone help me with where to start?

Has the ship sailed on the GRA? Are they still debating? Should I contact my (lib dem) MP.

I've donated to the Gofundme

I'm going to the Bristol women's place meeting.

What else can I do practically?

Thanks wise women.

Following with interest, been reading the board for a little while but had my first (semi) personal brush with the effects of what's happening yesterday and it's pushed me over the edge. A friend who is a school governor was telling me about a training day she had recently where she learned that the school would be switching to unisex toilets only and that staff are no longer allowed to use the word 'girls' when addressing all female groups of pupils. So yes, what can I do?

No the ship hasn't sailed. Quite the opposite. The amendments to the Bill have been parked and everyone in government is trying to pretend they've forgotten it's there.

Letters or emails are a good start. Your own MP is the obvious person to contact.

Amber Rudd is the new women & equalities minister. Dawn Butler is her Shadow at Labour.

Also social media if you're feeling brave. The more "ordinary women" (🙄) who are seen to be objecting, the better, because it's being made out to be the preserve of radical academics and generally a minority concern (and a hate campaign).

There's a good thread here somewhere about who to follow on twitter. Think carefully about what level of anonymity you want. Sizzling is a real threat.

Battleax · 24/01/2018 17:27

I'm going to dismember this flipping phone

Sizzling is not a threat. Doxxing is 😏

AngryAttackKittens · 24/01/2018 17:29

I mean, I hope they're not at the point of threatening to sizzle us yet (they'll get there eventually no doubt), but I personally would perceive it as a bit of a threat if someone suggested that they were ready to throw me on the grill like a burger.

SuburbanRhonda · 24/01/2018 17:31

So that’s what they mean when they say “die in a fire”.

Grin
Battleax · 24/01/2018 17:31

I don't know whether to laugh or shudder Confused

SuburbanRhonda · 24/01/2018 17:36

I’m sorry - it’s no laughing matter. Just the strangest auto-correct I’ve seen in a while.

Battleax · 24/01/2018 17:37

Grin It is. I'm starting to wonder whose side this phone is on.

Callinthepirates · 24/01/2018 17:43

Thanks!

I am working up to sharing on Facebook (not on any other media).

I have to be honest I'm pretty naive about what doxxing even means but I think I don't care? I haven't got a high profile job or anything like that.

Will start with my MP. I'm going to ask for a meeting via surgery. Will likely post for advice on this separately.

You can:

  • write to your MP. The sages.org.uk fact sheet is a good enclosure if you’re worried about articulating the issues.
  • share your concerns on social media.
  • share the gofundme on social media.
