It's just a legal process. He won't be freed.

I am glad you have so much faith in the system tbh..wish I did

Gingernaut · 11/01/2018 16:14

Nah. No faith in the system. This is terrifying. Shock

I was going to post about the 3 men who kidnapped a 14 year old, held her against her will and prostituted her to approx 20 men before she was rescued by the police. They've just been sentenced to 8 and 5 years.

There is no justice, or even a reasonable facsimile thereof. Sad

Ereshkigal · 11/01/2018 19:23

Christ.

UpABitLate · 11/01/2018 19:41

Barbarian I read that awful story on BBC earlier and was ranting at my DH.

There is NO MENTION that the police looked for, were interested in finding, would have liked to prosecute the 20 men who raped her. The language in the article is bizarrely passive "West Midlands Police believe about 20 men were forced on her.".

Those 20 men were sentient human beings who chose to pay to have sex with a drugged 14 yo who I am willing to guess would have been obviously pretty fucking distressed or unconscious, both of which one are clues that that she is not there by choice.

So why aren't they interested in finding these men? Why no mention of them and this language that sees it as unremarkable that 20 men answering an ad for a prostitute, on finding a distressed / unconscious 14 yo (she looked 18 yeah right and not knowing is no excuse with trafficking) just said yeah let's do this then.

I was so fucking angry. That;s 20 rapists who have just been, sort of, protected by patriarchal society and institutions I suppose.

Fucking livid.

On this M25 man I doubt they will let him out after the fuss about warboys.

BarbarianMum · 11/01/2018 20:15

It just makes me want to scream, if I'm honest. More angry than sad. One good thing though, Im now moving towards becoming a feminist activist, rather than just futilely raging from my armchair.

WhatWouldGenghisDo · 11/01/2018 21:59
Angry
Snowdrop18 · 11/01/2018 22:09

@GruffaloPants - would you think the same about Warboys?

I suppose we should gird ourselves for this one to be released as well.

WeaselsRising · 11/01/2018 22:13

This man was the excuse for a human being who grabbed a 10 yo literally just up the road from where we lived. Surely no-one in their right mind would consider him for parole? Angry

Snowdrop18 · 11/01/2018 22:34

Having looked at his history, it seems he also committed armed robbery so maybe that will help in not getting him parole, I don't know.

UpABitLate · 12/01/2018 13:22

Seen today the CPS are refusing to review the statements from additional 100 or so women who came forward at the time.

Back then they were good he'd be locked up for ages so no need to go through it.

They went for a conviction rather than caring about the long term.

The other thing that bothers me, is that each one has to be enough to result in conviction in stand alone basis? Even when there are 100 different people + the ones who went to court in the first place?

If that isn't evidence that our system works for sex offenders and against women I don't know what is.

Well the fact many victims were told to piss off when they tried to report is barely minor.

Oh yes and the met sueing victims, not great either...

Fucks sake.

Snowdrop18 · 12/01/2018 13:34

They should definitely be looking at that information now. I think it's only a matter of time before he offends again.

I was wondering if he gets a new identity, does anyone know?

UpABitLate · 12/01/2018 13:45

No idea.

Cps have said very quickly point blank, no there will be no review. The way they have gone about it will give ammo to those who say that lots of women lie.

GruffaloPants · 12/01/2018 22:30

@Snowdrop18 the problem with Warboys is the failure to prosecute/convict/sentence for most of the crimes he is understood to have committed. Parole board need to act within the law and base decisions on actual convictions/sentences. The guy referred to here has 7 life sentences. The parole board are obliged to review the sentence management of prisoners. They would have no reason to rush to release someone with this type of sentence.
