Wonderful awesome feminists of MN! I am a volunteer for a feminist group (UK based group but with global connections and networks) and I have the task of compiling a list of important feminist dates for 2018 (being 100 years of the vote) and onwards.

My knowledge is gappy shall we say, and I have limited time. There is so much wisdom here on MN I was wanting to ask for your help as to what I might include.

We want to include anniversaries, birth/death dates, dates of actions, protests, feminist conferences etc.

I will collate all the dates for our group, and will also post the final list here as a resource for us all to use and share.

So what are the essential dates in your feminist calendar?

Women of Bedford are doing lots locally.

This kind of thing? Would be interested to see what others have, too.

Here's a bit more about Bedford:

(The Cambridge event I linked to above is nothing to do with Bedford but looks great.)

Sat 10 March 2018
Million Women rise is a women only march against male violence towards women;

Reclaim the Night is another march against violence, every November
www.reclaimthenight.co.uk/
There's a London march and regional ones as well. Those are often the weekend before so that women can also join the London march.

''London Reclaim The Night is a women-only march. Men who would like to support the event are encouraged to join the Men’s Vigil, before joining us at the mixed rally''

Are you looking for anniversaries of historic events/actions as well?

libcom.org/files/calendar-riots.pdf

14th April has a Luddite food riot from 1812 led by women, and on the 17th April (618 CE) armed women burn 53 monks on the Isle of Eigg for cheating them of pasture rights. There'll be a lot more in there.

100YearsOfVote · 11/01/2018 10:18

yes please DD

I haven't had much time to focus on this since starting the thread - but yes also looking for historic dates, and will include dates of birth for important feminists too.

Thanks for the link.

Is there another "Womens March" planned?

There will be a FiLia conference this year, although the dates haven't been announced yet, they should be soon. Check here:

Love the FiLiA conferences - I'll need a TBC part of the list too, though its usually in October isn't it?

Yay, great links. Thanks.

Women's Place are organising talks focusing on the GRA

m.facebook.com/womansplaceuk/?locale2=en_GB

Glasgow Women's Library always have lots of events womenslibrary.org.uk/events/list/

These may all be too small and local though.

100YearsOfVote · 11/01/2018 11:45

I think even if they might be small/local for my purposes, its still good to post them here as a MN'er resource, so thank you.

I think this thread and its links could potentially be a fantastic MNer resource, OP, given that there are MNers all over the country.

I don't want to nitpick but could we get MNHQ to correct the tiny spelling error in the thread title - calender to calendar? I'm happy to ask them to do this, if you agree, OP. I am a pedant myself, and know this kind of thing can be off-putting, irrational though that may be.

100YearsOfVote · 11/01/2018 12:50

go for it !

OP posts:
Modestine · 11/01/2018 13:29

Understandably, on reflection, MNHQ say you need to contact them direct, OP, to get the thread title spelling error amended, even though they can see you agree to it. Just click on the "Report" link to message them. (Feel a bit daft making a fuss about it, but still.) At least we're bumping the thread!

LauraMipsum · 11/01/2018 14:00

LauraMipsum · 11/01/2018 14:01

And for 19-20 October 2019, if the calendar goes that far!

Modestine · 11/01/2018 22:42

Love that list of birthdays, Lunamoth.

PosyFossilsShoes · 01/06/2018 11:37
