I had an exchange on Twitter with Fae last night about this.
Turns out providing a platform doesn't necessarily lead to debate and debate doesn't necessarily contribute to understanding
So it's all fine and anyway we should be mindful that some of the stupidly privileged people who speak in universities and get asked to give evidence to joint committees are slightly less priveleged than other stupidly privileged people who speak in universities and get asked to give evidence to joint committees.
Maybe the privilege we should be talking about is the parliamentary privilege that allowed Fae to slander Linda Bellos with impunity in the Joint Committee evidence session.
I suspect that what Fae means by 'contribute to understanding' is 'contribute to everyone agreeing with me'.
I used to have a certain amount of respect for Fae as someone who at least turned up and debated politely but that's gone now. Fae wasn't polite but sneering. 10/10 for straw-manning though. Apparently me saying I am following the inquiry with interest is the same as people who say offensive things and then say 'just saying'
