Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Are you a gender critical university graduate? Have you contacted your alumni association?

Has anyone contacted their alumni association re no-platforming and any general reduction in female-only facilities and spaces at their old university?

After seeing the Bristol sticker on another thread, it only just occurred to me that I should do this. My old university (different one) is one of the worst offenders for this sort of thing and its alumni association constantly badgers graduates for donations.

If you've already done this I'd be really interested to know what the response was.

There is an exemplary statement on freedom of speech from the University of Chicago:

Some American universities have endorsed this statement. You could quote it as something that British universities should endorse.

"The University’s fundamental commitment is to the principle that debate or deliberation may not be suppressed because the ideas put forth are thought by some or even by most members of the University community to be offensive, unwise, immoral, or wrong-headed."

Thanks crome, that's a great link. I'll use it.

Not done this sorry, but I work in a university where things seem to be getting ever more ridiculous, so interested to see what you find!

interesting Guardian article about the gvt cracking down on no platforming and safe spaces in universities

Might be useful if anyone contacts their uni.

University of Oxford proclaims 'Freedom of speech and academic freedom are central tenets of university life', but it is also 'committed to fostering an inclusive culture which promotes equality, values diversity and maintains a working, learning and social environment in which the rights and dignity of all members of the University community are respected.'

That second statement could enable transactivists to argue that respect for their dignity requires affirmation of their belief that trans women are women.
