This is a video produced by #transrightsarehumanrights

TBH I wish we were as organised as this video depicts, I am also heartened that the creator doesn't seems to quite realise just how many of us there are.

I think this might have been Adrienne Rich's idea first?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compulsory_Heterosexuality_and_Lesbian_Existence

Mary Daly also bought into it in Gyn-ecology (I think).

Sorry to derail but someone on twitter has made this (featuring the same dramatic music) Grin

I think it's entirely possible to like and admire Julie Bindel and yet not subscribe to everything she says.

I do wonder if her stance on sexuality (not one I agree with) is a deliberate kickback against queer sneering at "political lesbians", which is part of their hatred towards older women and second wavers in general.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 14/12/2017 14:19

Yes, I think so. From what I've read, political lesbianism was a niche movement in the '70s, but even then it's advocates received a lot of criticism from other feminists. I struggle to see any value in it, for the reasons I've stated above.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 14/12/2017 14:21

ArcheryAnnie, I'm not sure, maybe nowadays it is. But, when it was first advocated, JB was a young woman, and the second wave were the new feminists on the block.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 14/12/2017 14:22

It was experimental. So much at the time was.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 14/12/2017 14:22

Sorry it's not clear, my first post was to YetAnotherSpartacus

Eh, whatever her reasons, I still disagree with her about it. And still admire her and take my hat off to her for practically everything else she's done.

I agree! She's done far more good than harm, especially her work with victims of abuse.

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 14/12/2017 14:44

Do you think that the TRAs are getting worried that their arguments and positions are starting to be discussed more in the mainstream media and that ordinary folk are widening up to their nonsense arguments? Is this video posted by the OP a direct result?

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 14/12/2017 14:45

wakening not widening- bloody auto bloody correct!

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 14/12/2017 14:49

I wondered if after the attack at Speakers Corner, the nasty mob at the anarchist book fair and all the vile things said on social media, this was a way of trying to say that feminists are just as violent. But as the worst thing they can find is a picket of Top Shop it's a bit lame, to say the least.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 14/12/2017 14:51

Plus, if they're going to insist that anyone who disagrees with them is some kind of radical feminist terrorist, they're going to look very silly because lots of people disagree with them who aren't radical, or feminists, or even women.
