Following the thread about an poster seeing their MP...

I work for an MP. Also married to him.
We have 66,000 ish constituents. Not a single one has contacted DH about trans rights/GRA.

He knows it's coming up, and I've been explaining the issues that are concerning women.

But MPs won't know how people feel unless you tell them. I want to shout it from the rooftops of MN!

Petitions are not as effective as individual emails or face to face conversations. Too many MPs think that the GRA changes are all positive. They need more information.

Please- email or write to your MP.

Thanks fusion that is a fantastic resource! So reasonable and measured. But i expect some will find fault

This thread has really taught me something thank you. I was told on a training course back in the day that it wasn’t worth writing to your MP unless there was an actual imminent Bill for them to vote on. Ie MPs are too busy to respond or be receptive to your arguments unless it’s urgent because they are about to have to make a voting decision. So I had believed that to be true.

The fact that some MPs are already taking meetings on this issue now, is excellent. I will write to my MP. If they don’t respond or ignore my points I will just write again and re-ask, politely. Smile

I have just had a reply from my MP (Conservative). I wrote to him with my concerns and links to the Sages and Notadebate info. I also said that I found it hard to believe that Maria Miller and Justine Greening were seemingly unaware of the potential collateral damage of the proposals to women and children.

In his reply he said he had written today to Justine Greening asking her to review my concerns and to let him have her thoughts on the matter raised at the earliest opportunity and he will forward her response to me.

In a handwritten PS he added that a number of local people have raised concerns with him, so he intends to follow this closely.

I don't imagine Greening will do more than the usual waffle in reply but at least if our MP (we are a mixed urban and rural constituency in a Tory county) is getting the issue raised by locals maybe we are beginning to build up a head of steam.

Is it worth contacting local councillors about this?

It appears so - well done!

Thanks. He's pretty on the ball so I hope the handwritten PS at least means he is thinking about it....

I’ve had a reply! It’s taken forever but I’m pleased to report that my MP was also quite concerned and understood my worries. It was only a short note so I have written back asking him if he will be raising any questions formally and sent the Sages leaflet.
