Who are good people to follow on twitter?

Well that's it really.

I hadn't considered myself a feminist really. Yes I've always campaigned for or supported equality.

So I don't know which influential women to follow and searching doesn't help that much.

Also need to bring my boys up with more awareness.

You should not just follow people you agree with.

I think it's crucial you don't.

In order to properly form an argument and be able to defend it, you need to be able to know what 'your enemy' is saying and what counter arguments they might make so you can pre-empt them.

You need to understand the motivations and objectives of others and not merely dismiss other opinions as 'wrong' or people saying them as 'wrong'.

What is their objective and goal. Does this have merit? Even if the way proposed is a pile of shit.

Don't just live in an echo chamber. To think critically you need to challenge yourself too.

Solving a problem requires you to understand what the problem is, not propose solutions based on an assumption that you know what the problem is already. You rarely do. This is the basic of good management but it works for all critical thinking.

I feel very strongly about this because I think one of the problems that is ongoing in society is about our inability to understand and communicate with 'the other side's and living in your own bubble can make you vulnerable to an inability to spread your message beyond that.

I do think that feminism has been particularly hard hit by this. The perception of feminism and it's tendancy to retreat into an echo chamber is part of the reasons there are now problems.

Yes absolutely follow all these feminists. But also follow the likes of Owen Jones too. I do find the process revealing and there is a betrayal of thoughts, fears and strategies that someone like Owen Jones make. He is particularly good as he simplifies things for an audience. You have to think about how and why he does it.

It is not good to merely stick to things you already agree with or offer you no alternative incite.

It's OK. I follow lots of people already. Would just like to add some feminists to that.

Although it’s difficult if they’ve TERF-blocked one

Changebagsandgladrags · 10/12/2017 16:06

Ah, so if I add some of these people will the people I'm already following know I'm now following people on the other side of the argument?

How can they 'educate' people if they block them?

Gileswithachainsaw · 10/12/2017 17:44

I've been watching hope the Telford vegan.

He's trans and a voice of reason and he's really funny
