Primark changing rooms

In the light of self-id as trans already overriding the exceptions to the Equality Act, Primark still has sex segregated changing rooms but proudly declare that they allow everyone to use the changing room of their choice. To me this is worse than the topshop mixed sex changing rooms as women and girls think they are safe in a segregated space but in reality men are allowed access on demand.
Primark refuse to answer my emails or respond to tweets about this and I don't know how else to get the word out and make them reconsider. I have a teen daughter and won't allow her to use the changing rooms while this goes on.
Anyone else concerned and fancy contacting them or advising me what to try next?

According to you.

Wadman - it's not the sign that's important, but the ability of staff and customers to say "you should not be in here" to men.

Pop24 · 07/12/2017 23:37

Astroterf just made it sound as though there was some sort of official study into trans people being more likely to be sex offenders or something.

Ereshkigal · 07/12/2017 23:46

There are figures which suggest that. You do realise cross dressing is a recognised sexual fetish? Cross dressing men now come under the "transgender umbrella" and cross dressing is I think correlated with things like voyeurism and indecent exposure. Boundary violation. I doubt it's coincidence that this proposed new legal framework would basically make these offences in female spaces cease to count.

MarrowWang · 08/12/2017 00:32

Artificial outrage, because there is nothing at all to suggest male people are a danger to females. Anything to try and combat that risk somewhat is hysterical and silly.

What is it with the proliferation of porno sounding names recently?!

Transwomen are men and as just as likely as any other man to commit a crime - this was indicated in the Swedish survey and a California prisoners study (which also showed they were more likely to be sex offenders). And given that 90+% of all violent and sexual crime is committed by men it is a great worry when they wish to access areas where women will be vulnerable, in a state of undress, or asleep.

Recently, the study on fairplayforwomen.com estimated 41% of transwomen prisoners are sex offenders, compared with 17% of male inmates. This was backed up by a later government report which said the figure was approximately 50% for TW inmates.

MarrowWang The leading cause of death for pregnant women in the West is their male partners.

I’m interested in the idea of trans women being more likely to be sex offenders as I’ve heard another take on that from someone I know who is a senior social worker who works with people who have committed the most violent crimes (sex crimes and murders basically). They say that in the last few years a disproportionate number of their clients have revealed themselves as trans. Their take on it is that the majority of these people are not truly trans. They have no desire to really become or live as women. It’s a tool used by them for a number of reasons. Attention seeking, thinking they might get special treatment or be moved to different prisons etc. Many of them mock women in their replication of them and it comes from a deep seated misogyny most of the time (their professionals believe) for they are highly manipulative psychopaths. They realise that it’s the latest buzzword and are jumping on the bandwagon. This would account for those figures and this could mean that true trans people are labelled wrongly as more likely to be sexual deviants when actually they are no more likely to be deviant than any other member of the population. I realise this is a totally separate issue from changing rooms. I do think there might be some unnecessary scaremongering on MN about trans people and sex crime which does seem to amount to prejudice.
That said it seems to me to identify as a woman enough to use female only spaces you should at least be in the process of transitioning (taking hormones etc) to the eventual aim of not having a penis. I agree that these policies seem ridiculous. So I’m not disagreeing with this thread.

MarrowWang · 08/12/2017 13:11

The leading cause of death for pregnant women in the West is their male partners.

Indeed. A very sobering statistic to be honest.

I do wonder, if people who argue against sex segregation just are not aware, or do not care. I would hope its the first, but suspect its the second.

I was reading the 'penetration man' thread in classics Blush

Pop24, this is precisely the problem! We are not 'scaremongering' about genuine trans people themselves, but this seems to constantly get misunderstood.

As you said above, there is reason to believe that some misogynistic sex offenders are claiming to be trans in order to get special treatment. In prison, this can be access to women through a transfer to a women's prison.

Now look at this through the changing room issue. If men are told that they can use the changing room of their choice, who do you think would choose to use the women's? I know that my husband certainly wouldn't, and I know that many genuine transwomen (some of whom are Mumsnetters) also don't.

It is precisely the sort of man who shouldn't be given access to women and girls getting undressed who will try to go in. Do you think that decent, respectful men would even dream of going in there?

We are not saying that trans people are sexual predators. We are saying that policies such as these allow sexual predators to claim to be trans, with no further action necessary, and so gain access to women in a state of undress.

LangCleg · 08/12/2017 14:32

Pop24

And this is why the sensible trans people in the debate say that self-ID will prove, in the long term, a mistake for trans people themselves, let alone women.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 08/12/2017 16:47

MarrowWang, ah I see. I did wonder because I've seen you, a SausageFumbler and LubeyBoobies - I wondered if there was some kind of Carry On name generator out there Grin

MarrowWang · 08/12/2017 16:57

I was TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole. Was reading the classics thread about penetration man and I felt like being either MarrowWang or MushroomCock. I think I am having an immature few days Grin
