Apparently when you tell people you've felt like a woman for 20 years, everyone forgets you're a misogynist and downright arsehole.

This got my eye, too:

Random "oh thank you for being soooooo brave you poor soul" by Alyssa Milano, she has over 3 million followers. She kick started #metoo. And she supports a man known for harassing women, now as a woman. What. The. Fuck. Is. Going. On?

So self- absorbed. I simply cannot imagine feeling the need to write that many tweets about myself. Attention seeking in the extreme.

To be fair, Datun, I spent my formative years gaming, I'm still in touch with reality. The problem here is massive amounts of misogyny, entitlement and privilege, not too many evenings spent trying to beat end of level baddies.

How much money would you bet he won't be 'trans' in 10 years?

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 01/12/2017 11:08

Yes, too bad all the thousands of women suffering rape, FGM and other atrocities because of their female biology can't just be "male when required".

Lol. I wasn’t suggesting it was cause-and-effect, really.

But there are an extraordinary number of transwomen who game. It’s over represented.

Autism, gaming, being in tech, a penchant for anime. The number of times these things come up make it difficult to ignore.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 01/12/2017 12:41

Datun, I can see what you mean. I've read about a connection too, and working in tech, I encountered more people with autism, than I think would be found in other fields. No transwomen though, not sure why. I've only come across one or two transwomen gaming, also not sure why. Maybe they detect my terfiness and avoid me.

I do think the link between tech and autism is understandable though. It's an area where someone who struggles with social interactions and nuance can still have a successful career because they don't necessarily need to work with people on a daily basis, and, in coding at least, there is little ambiguity. Code is either right or wrong, which I can seen would be appealing to someone who sees the world in binary terms. I suppose that could be the reasoning behind such people deciding they must be trans. It's if/else thinking. If: people who like x are men and I like x I must be a man. Else: I don't like x therefore I must not be a man.

Totally agree. That’s exactly how it was explained to me.

Also, the ease with which one can switch avatars. I don’t game, but I have read several accounts from men whose avatar is female and they get genuinely emeshed in that identity.

GuardianLions · 01/12/2017 13:24

Someone I am close to has a former colleague who moved to become a leader in tech in silicone valley. I think he was talking about something like 'transhuman' or something weird like that ... let me see if I can find out the word

GuardianLions · 01/12/2017 13:31

Yes it is called Transhumanism

"Transhumanist thinkers study the potential benefits and dangers of emerging technologies that could overcome fundamental human limitations as well as ethical[3] limitations of using such technologies.[4] The most common transhumanist thesis is that human beings may eventually be able to transform themselves into different beings with abilities so greatly expanded from the natural condition as to merit the label of posthuman beings.[2]" *

I have also had conversations with people in the industry (fairly spectrum-y/geeky) who actually believe this.

*Bold mine
