Being told I'm a ciswoman

My first trans related thread, well more of a rant. So please be niceGrin

Got into a 'debate' with someone on a Facebook page I follow about the term 'cis'. Apparently I'm no longer allowed to refer to myself as just female/woman. I am now a 'ciswoman'. So far I've been told:

  • that the term 'cis' is a scientific term (oh how I laughed at that one).
  • that as I'm not trans or non binary then I am a cis woman and that's that
  • that I'm wrong for finding the term 'cis' offensive and refusing to accept being called it.

It's just infuriating. Why shouldn't I be allowed to refer to myself as a biological woman. I don't need a silly, shitty prefix to identify myselfAngry I'm a woman, we've existed since the dawn of time.

Ask them to define the terms. I guarantee they can't and you're trans, and so is every member of your family.

In fact, if they just talk about identifying as, then, by their rules, you're probably not a woman either - you're going to be agender.

I play the engaged, helpful, but confused and in need of definitions person - who's just trying to figure out what means what - and it's always them that stops talking first, because they can't give a definition that justifies them calling me 'cis' and maintain their stance.

Eventually I'm going to have the last laugh with all this trans BS.

For years I've been saying that the increase in MtF is due to women taking the hormonal contraceptive pills before realising they were pregnant. Flooding the male foetus with female hormones.

Scientists have recently found that these pills cause male fish to adopt a lot of female behaviours when it's introduced to their water... how long it'll be before they can say the same for the human population I'm not sure but hopefully sooner rather than later :-)

The problem is you wanting to be too nice and not just owning what you're saying that yes, it is (by definition) abnormal to be a transwoman. Abnormal does not have to have pejorative connotations. It simply means it is a small enough minority to not be normal. It's a statistical thing, not a value judgement.

That's exactly it Kitty. Great point.

A wonderful tweet I say yesterday

Granted, for most of human history, being a woman hasn't been defined as having XX chromosomes. But for most of human history gravity wasn't defined as 6.674x10⁻¹¹ m³⋅kg⁻¹⋅s⁻² and people still knew the difference between up and down.

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 01/12/2017 14:08

For years I've been saying that the increase in MtF is due to women taking the hormonal contraceptive pills before realising they were pregnant. Flooding the male foetus with female hormones.

So, why the increase in FtM (mainly in teens) if there is some kind of scientific explanation for it all?

And where are all the middle aged FtM transitioners too. The excuse used for why there are loads of older men 'coming out; as trans now is that apparently they weren't accepted until now. Surely it would stand to reason that there would also be plenty of late transitioning FtMs..

I still maintain that this whole thing is just social contagion. Not dissimilar to how when I was at school, half the girls were apparently bi. It was trendy and got you attention. Much like trans is now.

Obviously people with sex dysphoria are entirely different though. Its not about attention and stereotypes for them, its entirely medical.

Sounds very sensible, Clare.
Am I right in thinking from your user name that you have XY chromosomes but are a woman? Would 'intersex woman' be your preference, if a description were needed?

misscockerspaniel · 01/12/2017 19:44

Anyone is welcome to call me miss, mrs, ms, madam, ma'am, girl, lady, woman, female or feminine. For me, the cis word is on the same level as the n-word and it was coined with malicious intent.

PollyBanana · 01/12/2017 19:53

quite frankly that's a load of bollocks
Male bollocks or female bollocks cos apparently both exist...?

DeleteOrDecay · 01/12/2017 23:54

Male bollocks, definitely Male ones.

"Are you looking for a genuine home for a proper and healthy new born baby adoption?"

Well, that certainly sounds legit.

Wayward: "For years I've been saying that the increase in MtF is due to women taking the hormonal contraceptive pills before realising they were pregnant. Flooding the male foetus with female hormones."

So how do you explain the sudden increase in FtM?

Er, hormonal contraceptives essentially work by tricking the body into thinking it is already pregnant, so that it doesn't ovulate. So they are 'exposing' foetuses to exactly the same hormones as in a normal pregnancy.
