The erasure of women, in society and politics

I read this blog piece today and it struck me as both very accurate but also very sad.

notthenewsinbriefs.wordpress.com/2017/11/26/when-womens-rights-are-notadebate/

I'm a member of a political party but they are letting women down badly, but the alternatives are no better. Will my sporty daughter get to compete against only other girls? Will I be able to request a female doctor in the future without being a terrible bigot? I've never felt less like equal opportunities for women and girls might be on the horizon Sad

Thanks for sharing, I wasn't aware of this method of shutting down debate:

A refusal to attend by trans spokespeople has led to the cancellation of slots on BBC Newsnight for example, and, even more worryingly, a consultation by the NSPCC was cancelled after representatives from the trans community refused to debate with Sarah Ditum, calling her a ‘notorious transphobe’.

MyYoniFromHull · 26/11/2017 22:12

Clever, isn't it? Knowing they have to show 'balance' by allowing both perspectives a voice, effectively shutting down debate by refusing to provide a spokesperson.

Which means that lots of the general public are denied the chance to hear about these issues and their potential impact on women and girls.

How does one become a ‘trans spokesperson’ then?
Curry, Miranda, either of you up for it?

I suppose that self identifying temporarily as trans would be out of the question. Naturally.

TreaterAnita · 26/11/2017 22:58

This is absolutely true. I cannot like or retweet tweets that I agree with in reference to trans issues because my account is linked to my work and I would get bollocked. There is no room for debate on this issue. Even people I have a lot of respect for on many other issues refuse to accept that there is a discussion to be had.

I find it all very uncomfortable. I am honestly worried that there is something that I'm not getting and that in fact I'm being a twat. A parallel is often drawn with homophobia which was obviously rife 20 years ago and (relatively) rare now and I do worry about that. But at the same time I am just really struggling to accept the erosion of the female identity and the potential risks to young girls and women (who will always be the among the most vulnerable people in society) that gender self-identification will pose.

I've noticed that the transactivists are very vocal on social media but equally invisible when it comes to proper debate. This means they're slipping under the radar of most people and society is sleepwalking into a world where girls and women are reduced to nothing.
