OP posts:
MsGameandWatching · 25/11/2017 12:45

When I first joined MN around nine years ago there was the odd post where certain posters predicted this and were ruthlessly shut down. And here we are. It’s infuriating yet feels like a fait accompli.

RJnomore1 · 25/11/2017 12:53

No.

I am supportive of the struggle of trans people to be recognised and valued. But as a woman my own struggle is not the same as theirs and I will not be marginalised. My right to appropriate supports, spaces and schemes which meet my needs is not negated by their needs, nor should it be superceded.

FlaviaAlbia · 25/11/2017 13:12

Not just labour sadly Viviennemary

The Conservatives are with a few notable exceptions on board and the green party renamed women non men..

Ereshkigal · 25/11/2017 13:45

I just hate the idea that the women's officer role is seen by many Labour members as some token PC position that a teen boy who's said he's a woman for 5 minutes can fill just as well.

IndominusRex · 25/11/2017 13:51

Categorically no.
Does anyone know wheee that cartoon came from?

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 25/11/2017 13:55

Its about getting females into leadership and such isn't it? So how on earth does putting a male forward help females? Its just bonkers and about time people started fighting back against the stupidness.

Nickynackynoodle · 25/11/2017 14:27

Makes me so sad.

Jo Cox award. Should TIM be eligible?
janeymac75 · 26/11/2017 19:56

I would have thought busy mothers would have more to do than say nasty things online about a 19 year old kid, who has probably suffered an awful lot of abuse in her life. Have you been pilloried in the national press? What are you so afraid of? You should be ashamed of yourselves. I am sorry I joined this organisation because i'm so disgusted by these threads.

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 26/11/2017 20:02

Good to see you doing the rounds of the trans threads janey, refusing to actually read them but spouting nonsense instead. Keep up the good work Grin

I am not ashamed of myself at all. I don't believe male people are female, this is a pretty rational view tbh.

Also welcome to mumsnet. It looks like you joined only to post on the trans threads though, so quite why you are disgusted now, when you specifically set out to do this, I don't know.

SophoclesTheFox · 26/11/2017 20:06

And yet you seem to have joined this "organisation" specifically because you're so disgusted by these threads, janey. Odd.

And in answer to the question in the OP, no I don't think that trans identifying males should be eligible for awards created to redress lack of female participation. No objection at all to similar awards being set up to encourage participation from trans men and women, though - that'd be fine by me. I'd back that.

Have you been pilloried in the national press?

No, but then neither have I bullied a highly qualified person out of their job, only to take on an identical role when spectacularly unqualified to do so. I haven't put myself forward for an award that was meant for a quite other group of poorly represented people. I haven't lied about embarrassing old twitter accounts which show up my misogyny, or about my application for the aforementioned award.

What are you so afraid of?

The erasure of women as a class, the removal of women and girls' sex based rights and protections, the exponential rise in the number of children identifying as trans and what their future will be, the end of women's sports, the end of accurate statistics that can identify discrimination, the bullying of lesbians to accept cock, wholesale gaslighting under threat of 'hate crime', threats of violence, and actual violence for asking questions and wanting a discussion about changes to the law that will affect all women and girls ... Also the manipulation of an extremely young and immature person by actual grown ups, because there is no way Lily could have got where Lily is without their support and I don't believe those people's motives are good.

I am sorry I joined this organisation because i'm so disgusted by these threads.

On the contrary, you appear to have joined MN purely because you are so discuted with these threads and wanted to tell us so. If you're sorry you joined then off you trot and take your lazy stereotypes about 'busy mothers' with you.

whitehandledkitchenknife · 26/11/2017 20:26

Yes. Us busy women, some of whom are mothers, do have plenty to keep us occupied, thank you. Unfortunately, we keep being distracted by the spectre of everything that has been fought for, for the last 100 years, being swept aside, because a small number of men have decided that they feel like women. Instead of them organising to get the space they feel they need, they've decided that they'll appropriate women's space.
I'm not afraid janey.
I'm fucking furious at the attempts to silence legitimate concerns, from legitimate women.

And to answer the OP's question - no, I don't think a TIM should take a space which has been designated for a woman.

FlaviaAlbia · 26/11/2017 20:58

I would have thought busy mothers would have more to do

Ah, stereotyping... Where would trans activists be without it? Wink

ALittleBitOfButter · 26/11/2017 21:00

So he's a "kid"...

DullAndOld · 26/11/2017 21:02

" I would have thought busy mothers would have more to do than say nasty things online about a 19 year old kid, "

women, know your place!!

Look , sorry, but this is a boy who thinks rape jokes are funny and is now taking the piss out of women completely.
You couldnt make it up.

BeyondAssignation · 26/11/2017 21:06

I identify as a busy mother, I actually have oodles of free time :)

theaveragewife · 26/11/2017 21:10

I'm a lazy mother, but my husband is a busy father......oh shit....does that mean he should be applying for the leadership scheme too?

PencilsInSpace · 26/11/2017 21:33

I identify as a busy mother Grin

Lazy busy mothers are busy mothers averagewife, and it's lazyphobic and Actual Violence to suggest otherwise.

theaveragewife · 26/11/2017 21:40

I'm so problematic

QueenOfTheFlatPack · 26/11/2017 21:49

Of course TIMs aren’t eligible for women’s awards. Or positions as Womens Officer. Just like I (white Anglican woman) cant go on a sunbed for a few weeks and then chair an NAACP group. Or a Holocaust survivors group on the strength of eating chicken soup. Or wear a dinner suit for six months and be eligible for Man of the Year. Or inherit a fucking peerage (I have a younger brother).

hipsterfun · 26/11/2017 23:45

I identify as a deadbeat dad, Sunday afternoons only. It’s very relaxing.

Superlandlady · 26/11/2017 23:46

HANG ON A MINUTE

If Janey is arguing that Lily is just a 19 yr old KID how can she support a KID being a labour party official?

badbadhusky · 26/11/2017 23:53

I would have thought busy mothers would have more to do

Yeah, I think the TAs were counting on that, forgetting that being “busy mothers” also means we need to be highly organised and are used to multi-tasking. We can always find time for the important stuff, like fighting for women’s sex-based legal protections. I hate lazy stereotypes, but for once it works in women’s favour that we are so frequently underestimated.

NotEntirelyWhelmed · 27/11/2017 07:28

I'm not in the UK, but this whole thing seems like that old adage that a man will apply for a job regardless of well qualified he is, while women tend to hold back.

Young Lily has all the confidence of a mediocre white man. This suggests prima facie that he is not qualified for the role.
