Due to stating that harassment is a gender issue due to the fact it's incidence is much more higher against women. It was in a reply tweet to Scarlett Archer's "I know this isn't a gender issue as it happens to men too"; of course it does happen to men but it's way more likely to happen to women.

I'm usually pretty tough about my stance on this - gender does come into - but I'm unwell and feeling rough and it's really got to me today.

Those who most fear obsolescence are making the most noise atm. This will pass and so will they. Smile

Hate that term. I’ve been called it before, think it was in relation to the Adam Johnson case a while ago. It’s what people say when they have nothing to counter your argument. They feel it puts you in your place.

1DAD2KIDS · 15/11/2017 12:43

We seem to live in a world where terms like NAZI and Facist are thrown around feely and unasmebly by all sides of the political spectrum. I guess the trouble with this frequent miss labling is it waters down the terms and devalues the terrible historical impact of these ideologies. But then maybe it's the harsh connotations of these labels that attracts people to use them unreasonably and totally out of context.

Sorry you’ve been called that. I don’t have much to add. Previous posters have said it all. Usually it means you’re doing it right.

It is, for sure, a silencing tactic. Which means that what you’re saying is unwelcome. Women talking about the inherent power dynamic between men and women is always going to upset the men.

LeCroissant · 15/11/2017 13:34

I take that sort of thing as a huge compliment because it means whoever you're arguing with:

  1. sees you as a threat
  2. has nothing coherent or worthwhile to say in response to your argument
  3. Has made themselves look like an idiot
  4. Can be safely disregarded from here on in.

Meaningless insults are the preserve of mindless bullies. As soon as someone starts throwing them around then they've lost. They do it to shut you up because they know they have no comeback. I consider that situation a victory.

I know how you must feel about this, but the content of what they say is irrelevant - they don't care what the implications of their words are, they just want whatever words will shut you up. So you respond by not shutting up, ever.

RunRabbitRunRabbit · 15/11/2017 13:47

You won the argument. You should be feeling smug not shit.

Anatidae · 15/11/2017 13:56

When people run out of cogent argument, they use insult and abuse. So you win.

You have dared to (to paraphrase Rebecca west) express views that distinguish you from a doormat, and hence you must be punished.

It still sucks. Carry on speaking out.

Sexual assault isn't a gender issue. Being a man doesn't mean that you are u affected and being a woman doesn't mean that you are not a perpetrator. Acting like this is just a women's issue is dismissive and extreme.
Sexual assault IS a gender issue. Something like 80% of victims are women and 98% of offenders are male. How much more gendered do you want it to be?

I think it's dismissive to act like men are equally affected when that's patently bollocks

QuentinSummers · 15/11/2017 21:26

op welcome to the club!
Feminazi aka doing feminism right, well done you. Don't let the cockwombles get you down

ThisBigSky · 16/11/2017 09:55

Thank you everyone for all the lovely replies - looks like twitter have removed the tweets :-)

I agree, the heavily gendered aspect must not be ignored... It really bugs me when it is.

Someone called the fabulous Tim Burgess from the Charlatans a Male Feminist Pansy last week on twitter. Within minutes he had mocked up a badge, and by the next day someone else had made some badges of which the spare was given to the first person to donate to a women's charity.

Wear the badge with pride!

Anatidae · 16/11/2017 10:20

I see my teen obsession with the Charlatans was justified :)

AlternativeTentacle · 16/11/2017 10:27

It was fantastic. He was calling out Peter Hitchens for being victim blaming, condescending and misogynistic. And was called a male feminist pansy by someone who has a soft toy as their twitter pic.

I love Tim Burgess.

slug · 16/11/2017 14:29

Time to buy one of these and wear it with pride.
