Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Name changed.
I shared the Janice Turner article 'Children sacrificed to appease trans lobby' on my FB page along with an aside asking for my friends to take notice of the changes that are about to affect women, (the types with actual vaginas, not the ones that just say they are women) and ended up having this exchange with a man. See the image attached.

The silence was deafening otherwise. I can't work out if people don't understand, or if they see the word trans and feel they can't speak out.

I did get a private message from a friend who works for the NHS saying that she absolutely got it, as she was set to start work in a specialist gender clinic but changed her mind because it was considered transphobic to insist on any psychological evaluation before irreversible treatment commenced, and she felt this was unethical.

I feel like I live in a world of shitty men and apathetic women.

In my experience, having these discussions will bring out some shitty men desparate to tell yoy what women should do (or rather not do) about trans-identified men. Most people will be silent for fear of being targeted.

A couple of people have shared on mine, but they are both counsellor type people who are interested in childrens mental health.

Yes it happens a lot but you have to remember that it's not just him reading your responses, but many others. So try to present balanced, well researched evidence. Not easy in the face of such idiocy, but you need to view your audience as wider than the fingerwaggers

And yes I often don't take my own advice. But I try Blush

AssignedPerfect I feel quite bitter that, aside from my NHS friend, the only positive feedback I got was for telling him to fuck off!

I feel like this is one of those things that people won't take notice of until they are directly affected by it.

It sucks Hash there's no doubt about it. Many of us have had fall outs with close friends and/or partners re this. Most people want to be open and kind and liberal and see this as the 'New Gay'.

But it's so much more complicated and also, so simple: you can't change sex but people with gender dysphoria should have all support and facilities available to them.

Stick with it. We need you

Oh, I'm not going anywhere. I have a baby daughter. I couldn't look her in the eye when she's older and tell her I didn't even try.
