And from the guardian, though comment section.

It’s bloody appalling that a girl has to say she is trans in order to wear trousers at this school.

And School dorms...

Title should say ID as trans...

Actually, I’m not sure all the article is ‘good’ regarding the dorms.

The article made excellent points on school uniforms. It's ridiculous schools are still forcing girls to wear skirts. It's needless and, by not allowing them to choose to wear trousers if they wish, imposes gender upon them in my opinion. There is no good reason to force girls to wear skirts as part of a school uniform.

Lottapianos · 03/11/2017 11:08

Yes the 'dorms' bit in the article was pretty alarming. However, the main point, that girls are not allowed to wear trousers unless they identify as boys is utter batshit nonsense. Seriously, can people not hear themselves when they come out with nonsense like this??! It wouldn't be much of a stretch to have a skirt and a trousers version of the uniform and let everybody choose for themselves. Some may want to chop and change depending on the weather for example. It scares me that so many supposedly rational adults are falling down the trans rabbit hole

Yes the school has numerous standards which ENFORCE gender roles, the result of which is that rather than allow them to ignore them, they have said 'well John is actually Joan today, that's why he has long hair'.

For example:

"Boys’ hair must not be too long (below the collar)"
"Girls’ hair should be neat"
"Girls must wear white, unbranded, ankle socks (100 denier black tights from after half term in October until Easter)." (boys no requirement)
"Girls are only allowed one earring in the lower lobe of each ear"
"Boys must not wear earrings. "

Sixth form:
"Male students must wear a suit, a smart shirt and tie, and formal shoes.
Female students must wear a two-piece suit with trousers or skirt, a top such that shoulders are covered at all times and smart shoes. Alternatively, students may wear a dress with a jacket
Girls may wear jewellery that is discreet and befitting a professional appearance. A member of the Wider Leadership Team
will rule on what is deemed acceptable. Equally make-up and nail varnish must befit a professional appearance."

mixed state boarding school has announced a progressive policy to accommodate the needs of trans pupils, which includes allowing boys questioning their gender to wear skirts and to sleep in the girls’ dorms.

Yet again, 'questioning gender' being used as a means to pretend that dorms are not segregated by sex. Ridiculous.

"Progressive' would be to allow girls and boys to wear whichever uniform they wanted to without having to say they were trans tbh. How are they coming so close, but then missing it?

Morning I’m inclined to agree after digesting it a bit more.

Started reading the comments and they have nothing to do with the article. I assume it's because the men don't care about the issue. Instead they're debating about whether uniforms are a class marker ffs.
