'Germaine Greer can no longer be called a feminist'

This appears to be mainstream opinion among young people. Our fucked up universities now employ 'safe space marshals' i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2017/10/25/01/45A4A9FE00000578-5013379-image-a-6_1508889824115.jpg in case people say things that offend the deemed status quo.

"Greer is now just an old, white woman who has forced herself into exile. Her comments are irreparably damaging, reflecting a total lack of regard for trans lives. Thinking what she thinks, she cannot be a prominent feminist any longer. She no longer stands for the same things we do"

It's not quite clear why someone who appears to be a 19 year old, er white woman, thinks that 'old, white woman' is an insult. But there you go.

Goodness me. What a mess of an article.

A quick scroll through the author's twitter shows her to be very, very young in terms of age and maturity. I actually felt quite sorry for her. She's likely to look back on this article in ten years time and cringe.

Datun · 01/11/2017 16:01

If it’s any consolation, the comments are quite scathing. And if you look at how many got upvotes, it’s very telling.

And I’m sure Germaine Greer would be supremely unbothered by this ignorant twit.

JessicaEccles · 01/11/2017 16:02

who has forced herself into exile.

How very Stalinist..

Gileswithachainsaw · 01/11/2017 16:08

Ha. If she had any actual facts or anything of any importance to say then she could do so without resorting to make calling and derogatory comments.

The fact she can only get her point across (her point being feminism should include men Hmm and that men are true women Hmm) by being insulting says all we need to know really

Datun · 01/11/2017 16:08

Does forcing yourself into exile mean just having finished a tour and to be constantly in the papers and on the telly?

AGnu · 01/11/2017 16:14

I'm 31. Am I too old to be a feminist yet? At what point do my opinions no longer matter?

MsUnderstanding · 01/11/2017 16:17

....says a student in a student rag.

hipsterfun · 01/11/2017 16:22

All the stupid ideas I had as a youngster have vanished into history.

Tragically for this lot, the internet Grin

Knusper · 01/11/2017 16:27

Absolutely, hipster. There was a lot of freedom in being able to leave outgrown ideas and choices behind in the mists of time.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 01/11/2017 16:29

What ignorance!

birdsdestiny · 01/11/2017 16:33

She seemed to have slipped out of exile to be on Question Time the other night.

MrsTerryPratchett · 01/11/2017 16:34

@AGnu it’s all quite structured. If you are pretty; up to about 40, your views are relevant. Ugly, your views are worth half as much up to 30 when they are worth nothing. There is of course an effect of hair colour and breast size.

Did people not read the Patriarchy Handbook?

Gileswithachainsaw · 01/11/2017 16:37

Shall we look forward to all the young blond women/redheads, middle aged black women, 5 ft 2 Asian women with hair above shoulders etc being slated and discredited til basically the only women worth listening to are men?

diddlemethis · 01/11/2017 16:38

The foolish 19 year old child will find her career haunted by her own immature opinions.

It’ll bode well for her when a quick google before job interview reveals this nonsense, especially if her potential employer is one of those irrelevant old white women.

She’ll grow up, but her juvenile opinions will be in aspic online. How embarrassing.

Jaxhog · 01/11/2017 16:42

Germaine is a feminist goddess. Those who disrespect her aren't worth the shit on my shoe.
This

When this woman has experienced being paid less, disrespected because she's a woman and been denied a level playing field in women's sport, then she can claim to be a feminist. Until then, she needs to respect those who have.

GG is one of the few people to speak what she really believes from the heart, without any of this trans-political correctness (i.e. emperors new clothes) nonsense.

Jaxhog · 01/11/2017 16:44

... til basically the only women worth listening to are men?
Don't think it won't happen!

slug · 01/11/2017 16:45

On a positive note, I am stealing this particular comment and will roll it out when required.

"Intersectionality does not mean everything must intersect with penis"

Walkingdead11 · 01/11/2017 16:48

Another comment read "I'm sure trans women would jump at the chance of ovary and womb transplant"......yeah, course they would!

Jaxhog · 01/11/2017 17:05

Bet they'd like monthly periods too!

Gileswithachainsaw · 01/11/2017 17:06

Haven't we already established abortion is a cisgendered privilege Hmm

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 01/11/2017 17:15

Actually I am absolutely certain many transwomen would love womb transplants. I think Greer was completely wrong in this assumption and much as I admire her, she was evidently writing The Whole Woman from a position of having not talked to trans people very much.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 01/11/2017 17:20

Hmm, Mmary Beard certainly made a non reply to the issue of allowing transgender people into women's colleges didn't she? How very disappointing. Somehow I expected her to be braver.

WitchBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 01/11/2017 17:21

Oh my Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore.

Stupid and ignorant article.

cuirderussie · 01/11/2017 17:29

Has that fucking numpty even read a single thing Greer has written? Since when did Greer exclude lesbians from anything?

FirstShinyRobe · 01/11/2017 17:35

Just what is this woman's feminism grounded in?

I wish these folks would crack on and form their Equalist movement and leave feminism to those who are prepared to actually employ some critical thinking to issues surrounding women.
