Repeated accusations and charges of violence towards women. Not a single mention in media, millions of followers, highly paid. If your successful enough people will over look being a woman beater or is it women are so poorly regarded it's not something that can effect career or reputation. Bit of both maybe. Anywho sick of all this fight hype

I wasn't aware of Mayweather's history until I read your post but it's disgusting. Another abusive man having his behaviour effectively endorsed due to his fame and wealth.

It's literally never reported or mentioned. I wonder if it's acceptable in that industry, I'd like to think most would reject someone with that kind of history

I've known about him being a woman beater for as long as I can remember, which is why I was rooting for Connor this morning (although he had made some remarks during the build up that could be construed as racist so he isn't much better). It's shocking that more people don't condemn celebrities who do this sort of thing, even Chris Brown has managed to continue his career and there was huge outcry when the pictures of Rihanna were released. Mayweather has built a career and a multimillion dollar fortune hitting people for entertainment, that he practiced at home on his wives and girlfriends is horrific but overlooked by his fans, as many claim boxing isn't a violent sport . I hated seeing the videos of his children during the build up, so supportive of their abusive father, I feel for their mothers, but I suppose the material things mayweather can offer are very appealing to teens. I wouldn't socialise or forgive any of my acquaintances for hitting their partner, and I won't support celebrities that I know have done the same.

But then plenty of other "geniuses" have done horrendous stuff and it never gets brought up.

I was thinking this the other day. There's certain celebrities who made have for example made homophobic slurs towards male colleagues, had DUI's, crossed swords with producers on their shows etc. They are not working now, their careers are over. Then there's the likes of Chris Brown, Ched Evans and Mayweather who beat or rape women and every effort is made into diminishing their actions and allowing them to continue in their careers. Violence against women just doesn't raise the same sense of outrage. The sub current of "SHE must have provoked him" is always there no matter how much huffing and puffing outrage and lip service is paid regarding violence against women. Men's careers matter more than any violence they choose to perpetrate against women.

Given how violent boxing is a sport, you would think there would be a wish to distance the sport from individuals who are unable to confine their aggression to the ring. Mind you, the same could be said for American Football - yet as pointed out on ABC "You beat a woman and drag her down a flight of stairs, pulling her hair out by the roots? You’re the fourth guy taken in the NFL draft. You kill people while driving drunk? That guy’s welcome. Players caught in hotel rooms with illegal drugs and prostitutes? We know they’re welcome. Players accused of rape and pay the woman to go away? You lie to police, trying to cover up a murder? We’re comfortable with that."

Let's be honest here, it's not even really necessary to be successful or wealthy to have your male violence against women excused, dismissed or minimised.

I should have added, Dale Hansen wasn't agreeing with the position that tolerating violence is okay, he was contrasting it with the attitude towards an openly gay American Footballer player. Not great shock to discover the NFL was somewhat less tolerant of him than the perpetrators of the criminal acts he had just listed.

I grew up in a working class family, and boxing was the sport offered to young men. It was seen as a way out of poverty for the lucky few, and a way to learn self discipline for the rest. It was said to reduce the chances of them getting into trouble on the streets.
I dont know any women from my background that did not grow up with domestic violence.

It's disgusting. So many men just get away with being violent towards women, society doesn't prioritise it. If it comes out that a celebrity abused a child, quite rightly, there is an outcry and he is ostracised from society. However violence towards women not so much.

DJBaggySmalls - yes. My grandfather was that type, working class, boxer, petty criminal who fancied himself a bit of a gangster. It goes without saying really that he battered my nan and her kids. I don't think it does teach them self discipline.

I was under the impression that you lose your license for things such as fighting outside of the ring, so why the fuck is it different for him? (He's not even fighting he's beating )

The idea of a woman in her own home with her kids being subjected to a beating by someone who is trained to knock out some of the toughest men in the world is absolutely sick making. Disgusting.

Floyd Mayweather is an odious creature, who had one of his heavies trap his young son in the room while he battered his mother to prevent the child running for help. That's the sort of "man" he is. Cretinous isn't strong enough.
