Bloody hell, that is appalling and so blatant.

I swear we are going backwards, women and girls are being treated with less and less respect.

This won't be the only place this is happening either.

Cynara · 07/08/2017 20:06

I work for an ambulance service. Not the one referred to in the article. Nothing about that story surprises me one little bit. I have chosen to seek professional advancement by doing further qualifications and working elsewhere in the NHS, because I am simply not prepared to pay the price for promotion within the ambulance service.

OlennasWimple · 07/08/2017 20:18

Really, Cyanara? Fuck

@Cynara Flowers. I'm also familiar with the misogynistic culture of the Ambulance Service.

I became familiar with it a few years ago; I was horrified at the culture and normalisation. The situation I was involved in resulted in several young girls being assaulted by a paramedic with the full knowledge of his colleagues. His victims included young family members of his co-workers, but even then other staff refused to give evidence to prosecute.

Cynara · 07/08/2017 20:38

Although there are now lots of women in the service, historically it was a male-dominated job, probably because it's very physical, so years ago, women would typically become nurses rather than ambulance staff. This means that senior management roles tend to be held by men, as they've been there longer. Things are changing slowly, but it can still be a very macho, sexist environment and sexual predation is commonplace.

PricklyBall · 07/08/2017 21:46

Bloody hell, Cynara and CastIron. That's terrible and shocking. Flowers

Fuck me, we really are going backwards.

NoLoveofMine · 07/08/2017 21:57

Probably naive of me but I'm quite shocked by that article and had no idea this kind of culture existed in the ambulance service. Abhorrent women are having to put up with this whilst trying to do such a vital and demanding job in a stretched service, on top of everything else they have to do. This kind of culture is horrendous anywhere and certainly exists in so many arenas, it seems to some (many) no matter what women or girls are doing they are first and foremost there as sexual objects.

HelenaDove · 08/08/2017 01:22

I archived the page and it seems to be readable;

I've repeatedly said it doesnt make any difference that we have equal rights in law, if the law matters so little to men that they can create a hostile environment to women.
It really does feel like we are going backwards. It says a lot that so many men still care more about being able to act this way than about seeing women as actual humans.

NoLoveofMine · 09/08/2017 00:26

I've repeatedly said it doesnt make any difference that we have equal rights in law, if the law matters so little to men that they can create a hostile environment to women.

Very much so. I often hear "women have equality now" or read online about how women are dwual under the law (not always the case anyway) but this doesn't take into account the myriad of ways women and girls are still disadvantaged and discriminated against - either within the confines of law or because it's so difficult to enforce the law or the onus is on women and girls to challenge, never mind how difficult this is and the impact on an individual woman of doing so. Not sure I'm articulating this too well but the result is misogyny and discrimination against women is rife and allowed to thrive.

Ta DJ Thanks

Mysteriouscurle · 12/08/2017 22:37

How depressing Sad

Henrythehoover · 16/08/2017 21:50

I know a woman who works in the ambulance service. She shared this on fb and all the comments from her and her friends where joking (both sexes) about it. Only one comment underneath was a man saying "how is sexual assault funny?" But he seemed to be ignored. It's so sad
