Dianic wicca

I fell down a bit of a Google hole recently and discovered dianic Wicca, I don't know how I've never heard of it before. It matches with my life philosophy so well and I'm really interested in learning more.

Is anyone here a dianic Wiccan? It seemed sensible to ask in FWR rather than in religion for this particular belief.
Can anyone give me some advice on where to start, what can I read etc?

Thanks :)

Not strictly Dianic and not strictly Wicca, but Spiral Dance by Starhawk is a good intro to woman-centred paganism.

My DD is very interested in this. She used to be a member of a Dianic coven apparently but she hasn't mentioned it for ages, so I don't know whether she still is.

From my conversations with DD, I gather Wicca in general values kindness and consideration and rejects violence and dominance. It seems a very healthy and noble moral system.

BroomstickOfLove · 04/08/2017 21:52

Not for me but for ages I was a witch in the Reclaiming tradition, as described in The Spiral Dance above, and it's a pretty good book for anyone with an interest in feminism and paganism.

I'd start with the Pagan Federation )0(

Ruth Barrett

Her music is very good too.

Not Wiccan but I practise female-centred witchcraft. It's fun!

I am a pagan athiest. Not sure if I believe in Goddesses and Gods but I have found Witchcraft helpful in my life alongside meditation. I don't seek to explain it, I am not a woo person but I find something comforting about paganism and it can be very woman centred. It helped me when I was pregnant, when I gave birth, when life gets shitty etc. I love to celebrate the turn of the year, I enjoy the ritualistic aspect of it and the way that it is tied to nature. I regard it as a philosophy more than a faith based belief system.

BeyondQueenOfLists · 08/08/2017 12:04

That's pretty much where I am atm damn, I don't believe in literal god/s but see value in the celebration of past women and "Mother Nature" :)

I celebrate Christmas and I am not a Christian. For me it just feels right and adds value to my life. There is a lot of truth to old wives tales and some sites have a power of place that I find attractive.

Everyone needs a hobby! Grin

I'm a history buff and interested in herbs and mushrooms, gathering wild food and spending quiet time by myself. Paganism links my interests together.

Blanchefleur · 08/08/2017 13:24

You sound very similar to me, Damn. I am also a history buff, especially ancient history/ancient religions/stone circles etc along with folklore, herbalism and women's history. Paganism does indeed link it all together nicely!

PencilsInSpace · 08/08/2017 20:04

Yes, pagan atheist is where I'd place myself these days. I think of goddesses and gods as useful, and incredibly complex, symbols rather than anything I would believe in or worship.

What I love about paganism is how rooted it is in material reality - seasons, the earth, the body, birth, death. Inevitably it honours the female in a way abrahamic religions can't because they are so focused on transcending all of that.

DamnDeDoubtanceIsSpartacus · 08/08/2017 20:09

Spot on Pencils.

MaidenMotherCrone · 08/08/2017 20:51

@PencilsInSpace You've said exactly what I feel.

Here's an image of a fertility layout that recently helped someone who was struggling to conceive.

It's so great you posted.
Feminism and Wicca is so compatible.

I wondered myself if there were "others" on here )0(

"rooted it is in material reality - seasons, the earth, the body, birth, death. Inevitably it honours the female in a way abrahamic religions can't"

YES!

Paganism, for me, gives me positive spirituality without any of the misogynistic overtones that come with almost every other religion.

Balance, it balances me. As a feminist I find life can make me very angry, the world is becoming more misogynistic and I am sick of seeing over promoted white males running everything, seriously, they're everywhere and they are doing a really shit job! Grin

Using herbs, chanting a spell, walking on a moonlit night, balance me. I'm not woo but there is power in ritual and it is female power, you can feel it.
