But thought it was interesting. One because it's funny how men throw their toys out of the pram at any perceived sexism against them. And two because I can't see who he is punishingnither than his wife here, and publicly so?
Alstghiugh knowing nothing about them I'm probably way off the mark

''Prince Henrik of Denmark has announced that he does not wish to be buried next to his wife, Queen Margrethe of Denmark, when he dies.

The Prince says he is unhappy he was never acknowledged as his wife's equal during his life, and therefore does not want to be so in death.

The couple will therefore break with tradition by not being buried together in the Roskilde Cathedral when the time comes.

The 83-year-old was named her Prince Consort when she became Queen, but he has repeatedly said he would have preferred to have been named King Consort instead.''

Presumably he's going to have a boring commoners grave instead of being interred in a cathedral.

So presumably he married her just because he wanted the title of King? I'm sure he knew beforehand that he'd be known as Prince Consort, but felt so entitled that he expected the whole country to change it's laws and traditions for him.

Yes it sounds like a pathetic tantrum and he is embarrassing his wife on purpose. He feels like he was "never acknowledged as his wife's equal". I wonder how many wives of famous men feel like that?

Aren't women allowed to be 'queen' to their husbands king and not the other way around precisely because of sexism against women and the way we inherit titles?

This is it isn't it - Kings outrank Queens (because patriarchy), so you can have a king and a queen if the king is in charge, but if the queen is in charge her husband has to be of a lower rank - ie. Prince.

This is a nonsense topic and applies to an EXTREMELY small fraction of the population.

Royal families have often followed odd rules and arranged marriages in order to keep the bloodlines close. The Spanish, for example, destroyed their line through inbreeding. The Habsburg line ended in Charles II of Spain (Carlos II) who was severely mentally and physically disabled. The Habsburg name itself became associated with an oral deformity called the "Habsburg jaw". The lower jaw jutted out so much, they had trouble eating.

His family were all extremely closely related - uncles marrying nieces and so on.

SO
It's likely the Danish Royal couple were married for reasons other than liking one another.

Phil and Liz seemed to choose each other and have been happily married for decades. I'll admit to having not googled the Danish monarchy but I imagine they are younger than our own dear Queen. Our Queen is so old now that the Danish royals could be quite elderly and still be considerably younger. Royal love matches have been going on for a while now so there is a good chance that the Danish Queen thought she was marrying someone who loved her.

The Prince consort is showing himself up to be a completely insensitive tit who, despite spending his adult life in the Royal Family, has no idea how Royal titles work, or what they mean. Frankly it's an embarrassing display of both ignorance and entitlement and the Danish Queen should get well shot of him whilst she's got the opportunity. Everyone knows Kings rank higher than Queens so he isn't asking for equality, he's asking for seniority. And asking for equality in a system that is the apex of the feudal system is a bit Hmm in and of itself. You either accept monarchy or you don't, and if you don't it's a bit hypocritical to marry into the royal family.

OlennasWimple · 05/08/2017 20:10

Yy - when "king" doesn't automatically outrank "queen", men can be given the courtesy title when they marry. Maybe he should have put his energy into making that change rather than complaining somewhat belatedly about the system
