Response from 38 degrees

Can't find the original thread about 38 degrees removing the petition on safe spaces for women but this is the response I've received from them. Apparently, they're a 'broad church' but not broad enough to include women's rights and safety.

Thanks for getting in touch.

I understand this is an emotive issue, but it's not one that 38 Degrees is currently involved with. This petition was started by someone on our website, and after thoroughly reviewing it, the office team decided not to host it. We reserve this right, as stated in our terms of service, and communicated this to the petition starter, who's free to start a petition elsewhere. From the office team's viewpoint, this petition was about maintaining a process that discriminates against transgender individuals, which violates our terms of use, and means we're not the organisation to host this discourse.

Ultimately, I'm not able to debate this issue with you, which I feel is not the answer you were looking for. 38 Degrees is a broad church, so you're of course welcome to get involved with other campaigns on our site, but we will not be hosting this petition.

Thanks for being involved,

38 degrees is mostly a bunch of nimbys with some quite I'll informed ideas imo. So no I'm not shocked but my opinion of them goes lower again.

God thats pathetic.! 'discrimination against transgender people' my arse. What about discrimination against women and children?

I basically told them to sod off (more politely than that), that I could see where they stand, and it was firmly trampling on the rights of women (exactly like that).

Then I unsubscribed and will not be going back, and will tell anyone who forwards me one of their petitions exactly why.

Are there any alternative organisations campaigning on issues relating to the NHS? Although this Gender ID bill is my main concern at the moment, the NHS is very important to me and was the main issue I got involved with them for.

Their narrow-mindedness and complete dismissal of (and silencing of) women's concerns is astounding - although sadly this stuff doesn't surprise me anymore.

The official Parliament petition page is closed until September

I think most people feel OK about using change.org

The NHS will always need to ask a person their biological sex. They will treat people with respect but biology matters.
Before you donate blood, they have to test your hemoglobin levels to see if it would make you anemic. they cant work that out unless they know you are male of female.
They also give you a pregnancy test. Donating blood while pregnant would be lethal to the fetus, and the blood would be unusable for some patients. They cant afford to waste money testing people who cannot physically get pregnant.
If you arrive in A&E unconscious they will test your hemoglobin to see if you are anemic, which could indicate internal bleeding. they need to know your biological sex to do that.
This is not a transphobic policy. Your biology affects treatment.

''other reasons for needing to know a trans person’s biological sex: blood from women who have been pregnant can cause a reaction in some recipients, so blood from all biologically female donors is divided differently than male donors. It’s all used, but female plasma is sent for processing to avoid any potential reactions.''
