Hi, I really want some books to read to my four year old boy which present girls as active, adventurous, heroes. Please could you recommend for me? Thank you

My son has just turned 8 and I started to do the same kind of reading with him. I've only done 1 set of books so far, fiction but based on real life. Save this one for when your son older as it it very true to life and talks about real "hunting, fishing and shooting" in the wild East of America.
We started with "little house in the big wood" then moved into the "little house" books by Laura Ingalls Wilder.

Fabulous though as a girl narrates and she is bright, optimistic, hard working and kind, plus she gets up to loads of rough and tumble adventures that boys recognise-he exclaims and laughd out loud at her audacity and spirit...... and the best bit is that my daughter thinks she's a hero too!

I second following A Mighty Girl on Facebook. There are books recommended almost daily and often linked to specific events as well as purely fictional.

What about famous five? Georgina was always the most badass of the lot for me (as a guy). Maybe audio if he is still too young for reading that.

Being from that part of the world, I think Pippi Longstocking is a must (they have movies, too, though not sure if translated into English) and me and my brother loved her.

Matilda seems a fairly classic one, too, I think.
