Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Help me put into words why I find this repulsive

Evening all,
Pretty new lurker on the feminism board here. I've seen this on Facebook shared by a few friends and it just seems really grim to me. I want to comment but struggling to find words. I think it's the idea that loving someone whatever means you should have sex even when you don't want to. And the fact he refers to his partner as 'that bitch'.
Any thoughts?

Imagine being in a relationship with a man who thinks you are a prostitute and calls you a bitch.

Ugh, I don't even want to imagine that!

If I knew this woman (and I hope the whole story is invented by a misogynist male who couldn't find a girlfriend in the first place!) I'd certainly tell her to get away from that horrid man.

OMG Whore! 15 years!

Do you think for one minute this happened? Your problem is not the imaginary woman nor even the prat who wrote it but your friends who thought it merited being shared.

M0stlyBowlingHedgehog · 27/07/2017 22:26

I think that pretty much sums up the consensus of opinion on the thread, Lass.

PencilsInSpace · 27/07/2017 22:29

You find this repulsive because it's a creepy troll who thinks consent is a financial transaction.

PencilsInSpace · 27/07/2017 22:32

And what Lass said.

Batteriesallgone · 27/07/2017 22:39

To be honest, even leaving the sex stuff aside, I find the whole 'boyfriend taking girlfriend shopping' thing weird and creepy. It's so parent / child in its set up. If you are equal partners you should have equal access to funds.

Obviously adding in the sex stuff makes it super weird and creepy...

TweeBee · 27/07/2017 22:59

Lass, tbh no I don't suppose I thought it was something that had really happened. But the fact that someone had made it up and put it on FB was disturbing enough!

This is a joke. An actual joke. I heard it donkeys years ago. Complete fiction.

I suspect this is a teenage boy.

And yes of course it's misogynistic. It's also highly likely that he is thoroughly resentful of all women because he can't get anyone to have sex with him. Which comes as no surprise to anyone but himself.

I would be far more concerned about the people who think it's funny. Partly because of the silly sexism, but mostly because it's just relentlessly puerile.

LinoleumBlownapart · 27/07/2017 23:52

Take out all the blah blah blah and what you're left with is "live in prostitute didn't deliver the goods, so instead of just not paying her I played a mind game and then didn't pay her" - "One day I might learn to see women as humans but don't count on it"

WhoreOfBabyliss · 28/07/2017 05:45

Yes, Tweeb at least. I remember an Ex showing it to me and I was with him fifteen years ago.

NoLoveofMine · 28/07/2017 09:24

Indeed; also because it shows they have this view of women and relationships to share it and women doing so are probably desperate to show they "have a sense of humour" and aren't like those women although are fuelling the idea many are. It's lamentable.

PoochSmooch · 28/07/2017 09:26

Would it help to think of it as a public service announcement? It's told you that some of your friends think women dispense sex in return for material wealth, and that misogyny is funny. It's good information to have so you can use it to think about the value they add to your life and your FB feed - I find periodic purges very cleansing!

squishysquirmy · 28/07/2017 09:35

It doesn't even count as a joke, because jokes are funny.
I've laughed along with dodgy/edgy jokes before, (even when I know I shouldn't), but that is just so badly written. And what's the punchline? "Women are prostitutes but if she doesn't have sex when I demand I wont buy her stuff ha ha ha..."??? Hmm

NoLoveofMine · 28/07/2017 09:41

That anyone's reaction to it is anything but scorn someone actually bothered to write it is baffling.

Xenophile · 28/07/2017 11:16

I suspect the kind of person who shares shit like this also thinks jokes about people with disabilities are funny. No one needs dickheads like this in their lives.

Dervel · 28/07/2017 11:59

The joke isn't even well constructed, and I've spent probably too long trying to work out any way to salvage any humor from it at all, as the best way to respond to guff like this is a pithy, short witticism. So I'd go with something like:

"Something about this story didn't ring true for me then I swapped emotional with clitoris and lightbulb! It all made sense!!"
