It is a load of twaddle. I can't believe this is the quality of thought for the basis of law in this day and age. Hmm

SomeDyke · 24/07/2017 18:29

Said I didn't identify as anything, or have a gender identity, just woman based on sex (female) and species (homo sapiens).

Jeez, so slanted towards identity and everything trans, if you're just a boring ole lesbian, nowt to ask -- since all the laws are there aren't they, so if someone still spits at you in the street, only relevant question is 'did you report it', and if not why not.................

I really can't see WHY they bothered calling it LGBTWTF survey, might as well just have called it T alone, and then at least they would have cleaner data on the group they were actually interested in.

Women/lesbians, nope, nothing of interest here (or if there is we aren't actually asking any of the relevant question because we don't care, your issue are far too old hat and non-sexy nowadays.....)

SerendipityFelix · 25/07/2017 01:53

This seems a complete farce, there's nothing to stop multiple entries, or even restrict entries to people in the UK.... how can they hope to obtain any kind of useful statistics from this?

Might it be possible to submit a FOI request asking how they plan to ensure that the data gathered in this survey will be meaningful and relevant, given that anyone can complete it multiple times?

sticklebrix · 25/07/2017 10:01

They're clearly not interested in gathering meaningful data. I fear that this process is a done deal. Many questions are ridiculously vague, poorly defined.

You can see how the sloppy data might be twisted in the future:

'90 percent of trans people have experienced abuse!' (based on the question that asks whether you have experienced abuse for any reason)

Women/lesbians, nope, nothing of interest here (or if there is we aren't actually asking any of the relevant question because we don't care, your issue are far too old hat and non-sexy nowadays.....)

Yes. I felt very sad for lesbians whilst going through the survey. They have been completely and deliberately sidelined.

AssignedMentalAtBirth · 25/07/2017 15:47

Ha ha, it's not just us filling out this survey. Anti SJWs too.

terrylene · 25/07/2017 16:16

Not surprising - I am sure anyone who idly clicked on the BBC website probably followed the links and had a go to see what it was that they weren't invited to fill in Wink

I don't think the questions were useful to anyone anyway. Just window dressing flannel.

userblablabla · 25/07/2017 16:39

If you are not LGBT please do not fill out this survery. I don't know what they plan to do with it but it could end up helping many LGBT people - the whole survey is not just about gender but also about sexuality. Please, don't be selfish, and find another opportunity to make your point.

AssignedMentalAtBirth · 25/07/2017 17:00

I think the horse has bolted on that one, user. I do see your point, unfortunately the trans activists and SJWs have left people with few ways to be heard

terrylene · 25/07/2017 17:06

Yes, I see it too, but I think it had well and truly bolted, long before we thought about it.

QuentinSummers · 25/07/2017 18:12

Thing is userblabla If you are agender (do not identify yourself as having a gender, which lots of feminists don't as gender is a social construct en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/agender) then technically you are trans and perfectly entitled to fill in the survey.
Perhaps if they are swamped with "agender but biologically female" it might start some cogs turning about what gender actually means

SylviaPoe · 25/07/2017 18:47

User, surely the only responses used to look at LGB people will be from people who stated that they were LGB?

sticklebrix · 25/07/2017 20:06

Please, don't be selfish, and find another opportunity to make your point.

Which opportunity do you suggest? A serious question. The proposals affect women but the government is not consulting the vast majority of us.

Is it really selfish to object to this nonsense? It's a poorly designed survey that is going to help shape new laws with the potential to ruin lives (an invitation to increase rape, assault, sexual intimidation and the sterilisation of young people via hormones).

As it turns out I am agender (have checked many definitions and yet to find one that excludes me) and therefore come under the trans umbrella according to Stonewall. I can complete the survey with a clear conscience, as can any one else who falls under the survey's remit which is nearly everyone.

SerendipityFelix · 26/07/2017 19:53

userblah first of all you have no idea which of us are lesbian or bisexual. Also, any gender critical person appears to fall under the transgender umbrella, as we do not 'identify with the gender we were born'.

hi6789 · 27/07/2017 12:24

Have just started posted on mumsnet today for the first time (did LGBT survey and signed petition) because I need my biological female voice to be heard, I am struggling to find a gender critical feminist group in my area. Could anyone PM me if they know of any, I live in Warwickshire/West Midlands UK.
