Are male prime ministers quizzed on whether they shed a tear at defeat?

Is anyone else finding the "shed a tear" interview somewhat galling? I'm not convinced that male prime ministers have been asked about whether or not they cried at defeat but stand to be corrected and find it is par for the course for male and female leaders.

And I have no idea why an apostrophe has crept into the title - I'm mortified I am convinced it has been autocorrected, very upset and frustrated. I might cry.

No, they aren't, but my bet is that she engineered this question in order to showcase her 'human' side (vs the Maybot image)
It's all stage managed, like Thatcher being filmed cooking and Cameron being given plebian wellies to walk though floodwaters.

I totally it is stage-managed in the usual ham fisted way but I still find it galling that she/her team/a journalist thought the question was appropriate. Stage managed or not it still perpetuates stereotypes and makes me very cross.

I think she is a horribly sexist person. I can't stand how sexistly she is treated and she doesn't do anything about it/perpetuates it. Tears, dustbins, walking in wales with husband, etc. Argh.

Yes, I think this was all to play up her human side, as she is seen as unfeeling.

Her uncaring image is probably heightened by the fact that women are expected to be more caring, so she is seen as a bit unnatural. I'd say that's more of a problem than the question about crying.

Her girl jobs and boy jobs can get to fuck, though.

Yes 'iron lady' and 'Maybot'. Female PMs are made out to be cold, and unfeeling, whereas it doesn't happen to men.

Does anyone remember the poem in one of the Adrian Mole books?

"Do you weep, Mrs Thatcher, do you weep?
Do you wake, Mrs Thatcher, in your sleep?
Do you weep like a sad willow?
On your Marks and Spencers pillow?
Are your tears molten steel?
Do you weep?

Do you wake with "three million" on your brain?
Are you sorry that they'll never work again?
When you're dressing in your blue,
do you see the waiting queue?
Do you weep, Mrs Thatcher, do you weep?"

Irrespective of political views, it was a bloody sexist question to ask her, the interviewer hit a low ,i think.
