Have just been reading about how transwomen will be able to receive womb transplants - and carry babies - in ten years' time. Surely this isn't possible?

That's science fiction.

Womb transplants have been conducted female to female. A man cannot carry a pregnancy to term, the hormonal and other chemical fluctuations are too complex to manage artificially.

It's impossible at the present time and for the foreseeable future. The whole pelvis would have to be rebuilt. Organ transplant involves a lot more than simply plonking one organ into another body.

Well, that holds true for giving women womb transplants, but since a woman's immune system slows down during pregnancy exactly to allow for the foreign object that is the fetus to remain inside the body, you'd have to give males a hefty does of immunosuppressants anyway, to simulate that.

The fact that the uterus is not his own would be secondary to the fact that the fetus would be recognized as foreign object by the male body, and rejected, because male bodies aren't supposed to have foreign genetic material in them.

Really -how totally ridiculous - modern science can't solve issues of infertility with born women and these infantile idiots now want scarce research resources spent on pandering to their egos because they have a huge case of FOMO.

This will never happen. It is total fantasy land. I'm sure several males will die in the process of trying though

To keep this in perspective, SRS has been performed since 1930 and still hasn't been perfected. The human body isn't made out of modelling clay. We can't just build parts and swap parts around.

I think there are enough wealthy MTT with large egos that will be more than happy to pay for the research. Which means that scientists will be spending time on these vanity projects that very few people would benefit from, rather than research that could help millions.

Although for ethical reasons, I don't think it will be in the uk.
