Why the f*@@ do men accused of rape think they are a good role model for consent classes?

First Brock Turner, then Ched Evans aNDP now Bill Cosby.
Why is it OK for these men to equate what they did (rape have sex with a woman totally incapacitated through drugs or drink), with a man being falsely accused by accidentally brushing against a woman?
Deliberately giving someone sedatives to "relax" them is not the same as having sex with a woman who's had 2 glasses if wine.
Makes me so angry

It's a 'look, I'm a nice guy really' thing isn't it (as Gloria Allred implies towards the end of the article). It demonstrates how they put their wants and needs above everyone else's, all the time, and the trial / conviction etc haven't changed that one iota.

DJBaggySmalls · 23/06/2017 11:36

Rapists are easier to believe than their victims apparently.

wtffgs · 23/06/2017 11:40

It's utter shit isn't it?

Since rape is about power and hatred of women (male on female rape), I suppose they enjoy the continued humiliation of their survivors. Bastards Angry

It's about getting their message out there over and over again that it was all just an innocent mistake. The more times people hear stuff the more it seems like it might be true. Reminds me a bit of Oscar Pistorius -the first time I heard his intruder story, I though, 'well that's clearly bullshit...' After hearing it about twenty times though, I started to consider it might be true -even though logically I knee it was still bullshit.

Collidascope · 23/06/2017 11:57

*knew

mummytime · 23/06/2017 12:01

You do begin to wonder just what a rich guy has to do to get convicted. Saying you drugged someone - nope. Even racism doesn't work in this case.

I think Cosby was offering classes in avoiding being accused of sexual assault. Obviously the answer is: if all else fails make sure you are a household name so no Jury can convict you.

fruitlovingmonkey · 23/06/2017 17:03

This gave me the rage. Smug fucking bastard.

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 23/06/2017 17:08

I find it so offensive I am not sure I can even discuss it in a rational manner.

Seachangeshell · 23/06/2017 17:12

He has so much power still doesn't he? Would he get away with that in the U.K. I wonder?

IndominusRex · 23/06/2017 17:25

Sea change - yes he would. See Ched Evans example.
They want to see themselves as the victims because they didn't like being told they were wrong. It makes me sick.

Datun · 23/06/2017 17:30

But on Good Day Alabama, another Cosby spokesperson, Ebonee Benson, suggested that part of the motivation for the town hall series was to educate people about the dangers of false accusations.

Fucking cheeky bastard. Fifty women, FIFTY!

QuentinSummers · 23/06/2017 18:33

I am not sure what the false accusation even is. He admits giving women sedatives but most complaints are outside the statute of limitations so can't be prosecuted.
These fucking men. Don't want to be accused of rape? Don't penetrate someone who can't speak to you then. Ffs. If someone needs a lecture to understand that they shouldn't be having sex.
Perhaps we need a "safe to have sex" licence for men.....

There are no words

BigDeskBob · 23/06/2017 18:48

You would think they would keep a low profile, relieved that they got away with it, and hope everyone would forget. They seem to do the complete opposite - they want the world to know.

Really excellent point. This is a known tactic to influence people.

Xenophile · 24/06/2017 11:32

Because they are utter shitsticks and believe they have done nothing wrong.

In their mind, women are there to be fucked and consent it optional, in some cases being conscious is optional.

Large swathes of society seems to agree with their analysis.

DJBaggySmalls · 24/06/2017 14:03

Its a part of cleansing and normalising after the event. Like the NRA pushing guns after a massacre.

mummytime · 25/06/2017 06:17

Umm have any of you seen the problem even the most misogynistic law makers in North Carolina have discovered they have? https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/jun/24/north-carolina-rape-legal-loophole-consent-state-v-way?CMP=ShareiOSAppOther

Basically they know their acquittal / short sentence was assisted by rape myths, so they have a strong interest in promoting those myths. Myths such as 'it's so easy to slip into accidentally raping someone without realising, it could happen to anyone but it doesn't make them a rapist if they're a nice guy the rest of the time.'

BertrandRussell · 25/06/2017 06:41

What I find particularly depressing are the "I fear for my boys" women........

PoochSmooch · 25/06/2017 13:52

Breathtaking arrogance. Just breathtaking.

I listened to a fairly interesting podcast called "Cosby Unravelled" about the trial and the leadup to it. While it was skimpy on any analysis of rape myths or feminist perspective, it was good on explaining why so many people are reluctant to believe any ill of Cosby at all. It's not just the usual misogynists and handmaidens that you get at any rape or sexual assault trial, but swathes of African Americans who are genuinely gutted that someone who was held up as such a role model has had such a thumping fall from grace. They can't reconcile their view of Dr Cliff Huxtable, father of the nation, being a serial sexual assaulter of women. It just doesn't compute. And many people just can't wrap their heads around that being the very reason he got away with it for so long.

AnotherQuoll · 25/06/2017 18:36

It's their way of getting revenge on their own and other victims for having the nerve to cause them the inconvenience of being charged with a few of the crimes they've committed. And it's to boast and bond with other 'guys', to 'support' them by saying "Get this, blokes- I got away with it! You can too! Ha ha ha".
