Just saw an advert (aimed at men) which referred to opening the door for a woman as "laying down the ground work". The man of course got to date the woman.

Haven't men been trying to say for years that the door thing is 'just being nice' (bullshit) and that we're overreacting when we say we don't like patronising, presumptive behaviour? (dismissive)

What the what? Anyone else seen this? AM I overreacting?

(Need to get any necessary venting over this done before poor hubby wakes up because he actually is a seriously decent bloke and doesn't need any of the mood I'm in just now lol)

I'm so glad I'm not alone in finding the attitude shoddy and entitled.

And it's not a door opening problem, it's the motivation and body language. And if some people have never had a guy use a compliment or what should be a common courtesy as some sort of sordid bargaining chip, I'm afraid your just lucky. Your experiences don't prove it doesn't happen.

This was an advert on YouTube which you now can't find. You now appear to be conflating this into real life. Do you do that with every advert you see?

Holding open doors for everyone is good manners. Only holding open doors for women is cringey

And this happens? Whoever posted this regularly sees men holding doors open for women but not for men? How would you even know? Do you lurk at office doors checking?

Nor me. I think you would have to be exceptionally determined to find something to complain about to decide someone holding a door open is being smug.

Or an exceptional ego to assume a man holding a door open for is making some sort of play for you.
