"We will put a responsibility on industry not to direct users – even unintentionally – to hate speech, pornography, or other sources of harm," the Conservatives write."

While I am confident of the response on this forum towards the pornographic element of this proposal, I am wondering what we all think of the 'not directed to hate-speech' part... Just think of all the feminists who have spoken out on the trans ideologies and subsequently been branded as 'hate-speakers' and transphobes...

As soon as stuff like this is put in place, someone works out a way around it. It's unworkable.

I agree it's scary, the recent laws are terrifying in their naivety. You can almost hear the meetings that took place and the arrogance and ignorance of the people who advocated for these laws.

I am all for the under 18 thing but how the fuck would that work on a practical level? For example that police and crime commissioner who was crucified over her Tweets. Most places allow you to take stuff down anyway so she had the option of doing that, how will this be different? How the fuck do they intend to regulate people posting screen shots? What about people who lie about their age when they sign up (which I think is most people given that you need to be 13 to use most sites and kids have profiles at 7 and 8 now)?

I seriously wonder if they have anyone who knows what they are doing to advise them, or how they would pick them. They dont seem to realise this is exactly how China and N.Korea act.

What the hell do they mean by 'other sources of harm?' If something isn't illegal you should be able to access it via a search engine imo. Also as pps have said anything like this is unworkable and unenforceable. I bet they didn't consult with anyone who knew what they were talking about before writing that bit of the manifesto.
