Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Would you take your 10 yr old daughter to see Germain Greer?

I've never seen Germain Greer speak and have been a big fan over the years. As a university student in the late 80s I read the original edition of the female Eunuch that my mum had on her bookshelf and it led me to read more feminist literature and down the path of being a feminist. Given Germaine is 78 now I thought I'd go and see her before she retires from public speaking, as she's not getting any younger.

Question is as the post title. I know Germaine is known for being direct and her at times she apparently uses rather colourful language so I'm dithering between exposing my (naive about certain things) daughter to words she's not heard before versus going to hear one of the most famous women of our time speak. My daughter does know about feminism and who Germaine Greer is in simple terms. What would you do?

Beebeeeight

Do you still want them?

Datun · 16/05/2017 21:51

Oh. I'm wondering now if you have both just replied to the OP. 😩

Datun · 16/05/2017 21:54

I'll start a new thread.

Just seen that she is coming to Brixham near me but not sure I am brave enough to go a!one. If anyone is near me in Plymouth and fancies it, shout out.

Two tickets still available for Redhill, if anyone is interested. It starts at 7:30.

OpalIridescence · 17/05/2017 15:44

Yes I definitely would.

And thank you for asking, I didn't know she was on tour until I read your thread.

Now I have tickets to see her in June, woohoo, ridiculously excited! Grin

Gah, I think I ought to have name changed for that post.
Any ideas?

WomanScorned · 21/05/2017 06:34

I don't mean ideas for a name, BTW.
I meant opinions on whether I should be worried and what to do about it Confused

Hell yes, I love Germaine. I don't always agree with her (although I usually do) , but she is fantastic.

PhoenixJasmine · 01/06/2017 19:11

Thanks to this thread I am currently waiting to see her speak tonight! Supping wine out of a plastic cup in the theatre bar by myself. Feel so grown up Grin

Anyway thankyou very much littlepinkmouse for posting because you prompted me to be here tonight! Wine

Where are you planning to see her? I was really excited to take my 10 year old but I've just called the venue (Preston) and they say the minimum age is 14 and they recommend over 16 :(
