Hi All

I have an appointment to see my MP this Friday to ask why he has not replied to my emails re the Gender Identity Bill 2016-2017 and to challenge him regarding his stance on this Bill. I am looking for one liner arguments to throw at him please. Intending to take in lots of articles for his perusal. All and any help welcomed, thanks in advance.

Usui xx

Feedback from meeting:

Armed with my list of questions I awaited in trepidation for my meeting with my MP however was pleasantly surprised with this responses.

Although he initially thought that Q2 transwomen are women I think by the end of the meeting he has changed his mind. He was unable to answer Q3 as he did not know the full details of the Bill and would investigate. Q4 - he was very concerned about as he put is new media influence on young people particularly in respect to mental health and stated how new media can be can be a massive positive for society but that he would be very concerned about his own children using it in today's society i.e. the negative influences. Q5 he was very interested in the cautionary note from Polly and said that he would base his thoughts strongly within scientific truths as he had done with previous Bills. Q6 He totally agreed about concerns re people of nefarious intent using the Bill to access womens spaces. Q7 we discussed the fell runner etc and he agreed it was all somewhat vague and needs further objective investigation Q8 Totally in agreement that medical priority should be exactly that - a priority! Jumped straight to Q10 What are your views on the scientifically inaccurate CPS/GIRES endorsed PHSE school resources that promote pink/blue brain stereotypes? He will look into getting it removed from schools! He also said that as it is a private members bill it is highly unlikely to be passed unless there is full agreement from the entire Parliament and that he will be happy to meet with me again to discuss further and that in the meantime he will await an email from me with additional information - all in all a very positive experience

Fantastic Usui, well done, brava! FlowersYes, I've read the women analysing policy page and it's a good critique of the report. Good one to send him, very clear and logical.

He will look into getting it removed from schools!

So he should. Let's put pressure on all our elected reps about this.

Usui101 · 24/03/2017 23:13

Sounds like a plan venus

Thank you all for your support and encouragement, without you I would never have summoned the courage to actually go and lobby an MP - in all honesty it was one of the scariest things I have ever done but so glad I did go and I feel that my concerns were really listened to and responded to appropriately. I will keep up the good fight for two main reasons, firstly to protect those who really do need help with gender and reproductive issues for example those with Turners, Kleinfelter syndrome etc and second to help protect those young people who are under increasing pressure to become trend setters by following a path of no return. Thank you so much Flowers

Sorry, it's Friday I'm on the Wine

shinynewusername · 26/03/2017 21:03

Fantastic. So well done Usui. I will try to muster the energy to see my own MP even though it's a waste of time as he cares about nothing other than his own re-election as he has ignored my letters.

dangermouseisace · 26/03/2017 21:47

wow usui well done for going in and arguing the case so well. It is so great that an MP seems to finally understand! That was no easy task, you are amazing! I'm still puzzled as to what is actually happening with the Bill.
