I didn't want to de-rail the main women's march thread, so I thought I'd post this here. This ludicrous blog post came up on my feed this morning and I think it's useful as it shows so clearly, the level of narcissism and misogyny of the most vocal transactivists who hate women so much that they are angry when we even mention slang terms for female genitalia (and I am using female in the biological, scientific sense, not the new-fangled Alice in Wonderland "words mean whatever I they say I mean" sense).

transactivist telling a woman she's not allowed to respond to Trump with any reference to her own body and feelings

If I hadn't already reached peak trans several times in the last few years, this would have been the post that brought me to peak trans.

It should beggar belief that a person born with a penis and XY chromosomes, who has been raised and socialised as a boy and then a man, has the fucking cheek to transplain women that they are not allowed to respond to Trump with a reference to their own genitalia using the term Trump himself used. And yet it doesn't. We have grown used to the tiny, tiny tiny number of transactivists who tell us they are women, behaving exactly like the sex class of men do, when they arrogate to themselves the right to tell women what to talk about, how to talk, how to think. And when they tell the vast majority of women, that we are not allowed to talk about birth, menstruation, breastfeeding, abortion, birth, pregnancy, vulvas, vaginas and "pussies" because such matters bear no relevance to the really important members of the group "women".

FFS. How do women who call themselves feminism manage to be in such deep denial about this?

Well, if we can't talk about our biology, we can't discuss this either:

If you remember back in 2012, (can't link anything right now, it's easily googled though), a female legislator in Michigan was banned by male Republicans from speaking after using the word "vagina" (in quite a flippant and provocative way, but making a valid point in her speech) In a debate on a very restrictive abortion bill (introducing prohibitive licensing and insurance requirements and ban all abortions after 20 weeks unless it was necessary to save the woman's life). She was told the word was "offensive" and had "violated the decorum of the House".

As she said afterwards, "if I can't say the word vagina, why are we legislating vaginas? What language should I use?" Which is the crux of the problem, if you don't have the language to name a problem, you can't fight it.

It's funny how similar these right wing and left wing men's tactics are, really.

That's a cross post with yours Xeno, I spent ages writing my post on a fiddly device :)

You know the first thing that occurred to me about that Trump photo?

"Did you just assume their gender?"

Grin

But seriously, if 4 of them identified as women, the liberal press would get very confused.

The people who are affected by the assault on female reproductive rights, by men grabbing their genitals etc are the kind of people who own wombs and vaginas.

Not transwomen. Just plain ordinary women (which includes transmen, who won't be able to identify their way out of needing an abortion).

And these supposed feminists won't let us name the problem? Don't want us to say out loud that it's our sex, our genitalia that cause us to be affected by this stuff? They can fuck right off.

If we can't reference GYNecology, how can we reference misoGYNy? (Don't get me started on 'transmisogyny' - ignorant, meaningless term).

venusinscorpio · 25/01/2017 14:23

I agree, "transmisogyny" is a nonsense.

CantReach · 25/01/2017 17:48

I've also been sexually assaulted - involving being literally grabbed by the pussy - and I also have no feelings that the phrase trivialises it. I don't think it's the classiest slogan ever, but that's not what it's intending to be.
