As it's sexist towards men

I love Jess Phillips. You might not agree with some of her politics but on women's issues, she is right there.

This is her response to Phillip Davies wanting to intervene

In the clip of Phillip Davies speaking, I can't quite catch what the interruptor is saying. Is that Jess?

amispartacus · 16/12/2016 22:36

I guess so. I think they can ask someone to 'give way' during a speech. (based on my West Wing knowledge)

He spoke for 78 minutes. Some MPs had to cut their speeches short so there would be time for it to be passed.

Looking forward to him doing something for male issues rather than trying to block leglisation

What a bellend!

This is the transcript

hansard.parliament.uk/commons/2016-12-16/debates/F7A014D2-125B-4D18-A2EC-D92E64276CA4/PreventingAndCombatingViolenceAgainstWomenAndDomesticViolence(RatificationOfConvention)Bill

It is shocking to see how much Phillip Davies dominated this debate.

amispartacus · 16/12/2016 22:42

This followed the 78 minute speech

Thangam Debbonaire (Bristol West) (Lab)

"That is 78 minutes that I will never get back."

Mr Deputy Speaker (Mr Lindsay Hoyle)

"Let’s get on with the speeches."

Thangam Debbonaire

"I was going to speak extensively about the work with perpetrators that I have been involved in for about 10 years, but I have crossed out much of my speech because I do not want to filibuster so that the Bill runs out of time.

Instead, I will quote briefly from research that I helped set up while I was the research manager at Respect, the national organisation for work with perpetrators of domestic violence and male victims. It is called the Mirabal research and people can look it up on the Respect website"

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 16/12/2016 22:56

'Won't somebody think of the menz?!' Fuck you. If you're that bothered, bring your own bill, you fucker

amispartacus · 16/12/2016 23:02

If you're that bothered, bring your own bill, you fucker

Jess Phillips said the same thing but in political language

"I thank the hon. Gentleman for his graciousness—genuinely. When he started speaking, he said that a Member saying that they do not support this Bill does not mean that they support violence against women.

He is absolutely right to say that it is not a zero-sum game, but does he agree that wanting a Bill that supports women does not mean that we do not want one that supports men? There is no use of the word “only” in this Bill.

If he wishes to bring in a Bill about violence against men, I will gladly co-sponsor it with him"

Cherryskypie · 16/12/2016 23:26

David Nuttall MP (Bury North) and Christopher Chope MP (Christchurch) were on hand, as usual, to help him waste time.

MyWineTime · 16/12/2016 23:36

Signed
What a fucking cockwomble!

AltheaThoon · 17/12/2016 09:59

I shared this on my fb page. Not a single comment or reaction to it. I understand some people don't like getting political on fb but, seriously, all the inane shit that is circulated and applauded on there and something like this is completely ignored. Pisses me off.

amispartacus · 17/12/2016 11:09

Not much discussion elsewhere on MN either

BigChocFrenzy · 17/12/2016 13:41

He's the arse wipe who tried to repeal the Sex Discrimination Act via a Private Member's Bill in the HoC.
He also made that disgusting diatribe at the J4MB (Justice for Men and Boys party ) hate fest

www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/aug/12/pressure-mounts-on-may-to-respond-to-philip-davies-feminist-zealots-comment

I don't understand why he hasn't been suspended by Theresa May for collaborating with a party that intends to stand in the 20 most marginal Conservative constituencies; a party that has "13 reasons women lie about being raped" on their website.

mycatsmellsnice · 17/12/2016 17:35

Thanks for that link Rose. He's my bloody MP too. I email him regularly just to annoy him! He's a vile, entitled caveman.
